Considering the mentioning of Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, etc. and their Western remakes, it should be as no surprise that Kurosawa mentions John Ford as one of his biggest influences as a director.

Just finished watching Madadayo. A very slow movie, but an interesting look into more recent Japanese culture. Worth watching if you are in the right mood and interested in other cultures.

I see lots of praise for Yojimbo, but I enjoyed the follow-up Sanjuro more. Perhaps the pacing was just better suited to a Western audience (me). Rashomon puts M. Night to shame in the plot twist...
