It's only got a short warranty, so it really doesn't bother me. Takes 5 minutes or less and adds 46 cents to the price. I get TD rebates within 4 or 5 weeks. I've never had any of my 100+ TD rebates...

note that most of the USB3 WD ext drivers are NOT sata. they use a proprietary controller board that outputs directly to usb3. can't vouch for those. but most reviews says it's a regular sata...
