Soccer wrist braces?

39,439 5,562 May 15, 2017 at 05:31 AM
7yo DD broke her arm/wrist a couple weeks ago playing soccer (a "greenstick" fracture); now she has a cast for a few weeks then a brace for a few after that.

Some people have mentioned to me that wrist braces are common for soccer as an injury preventative - but all I can find are to treat specific injuries (e.g. a sprain) and for adults, too. I'd buy her a couple braces but obviously need kids versions, and I'd like to find a "general" one, not one specific to a certain type of injury.

Has anyone used these before?

I've been to like 10 games and 1 tournament and I didnt notice any players wearing wrist braces.

But I'd think any brace used for like skate boarding would be more than sufficient. When I looked at braces for snow boarding there was talk about spiral fractures but I dont recall if it was from low end braces, bad fit, or simply something had to give.

Played soccer for 15+ years. I don't ever recall someone wearing a wrist braces unless they were nursing a broken or sprained arm/wrist/hand.

I remember that, that was something. I can't believe there wasn't a brawl after what she was pulling.

Why not just continue to wear the removable braces after she is done with the 'required' period. Or you could totally get some 3D printed.

But in all the soccer I've played and watched, I don't think I have ever noticed anyone wearing them. I think the better precaution would be sliding lessons (maybe with a baseball coach). The number 1 way to prevent injuries is not 'just put on more equipment' but rather how to PROPERLY complete the motion. That is why they put such an emphasis on how to properly tackle in football rather than just making bigger helmets.

The equipment is needed when contact cannot be avoided due to the speed of the game (shin guards / batting helmets / catching gear / goalie masks).
