Republic's 3.0 plan is a currently T-Mobile only. At one point, they were looking at adding Sprint, but it looks like they took down that statement from their FAQ.
https://community.republicwireles...read/59102

FINE PRINT:

Each SIM card purchased between May 16, 2017 and May 22, 2017 (the "Offer Period") on www.republicwireless.com entitles the purchaser (herein referred to as either the "customer" or "you") to up to six (6) consecutive months of up to Republic Wireless's Talk and Text plus 2GB of cellular data service plan free of charge (taxes and telecom charges not included) subject to the following conditions (the "Offer"). You must activate the SIM card on or prior to June 6, 2017 on a supported Republic Wireless phone, chose a valid Republic Wireless service plan, and agree to the Republic Wireless Terms of Service (a "Valid Activation"). The Offer is only valid on new customer accounts and a new service line for an existing customer account. If you are an existing customer and you use the SIM card to upgrade or transfer a current service line on your current account, you are not eligible for the Offer. The Offer is valid only while SIM card supplies last. SIM card supplies are limited and once they sell out, no other SIM cards will be eligible for this Offer. The Offer is not valid for purchases of the SIM card prior to May 16, 2017 or after May 22, 2017. The Offer has no cash value, is not valid for payment of any kind other than as a service credit for a Republic Wireless service plan, not transferrable, and not valid on the service plans of any wireless carrier other than Republic Wireless.

The free service (taxes and telecom fees not included) will begin at the start of your second month with Republic Wireless. Put another way, you will need to pay for the first month of service and then beginning with your second month, you will receive free service (taxes and telecom fees not included) for the next six (6) consecutive months. If the Republic Wireless service is terminated before the expiration of the consecutive six (6) month period (an "Early Offer Termination"), any and all remaining months of service credits expire. The Offer cannot be redeemed for cash, credit or any other amount. Under the Offer, the plan you will receive six (6) months of service free of charge for (excluding taxes and telecom fees) will be the plan you chose upon the Valid Activation, so choose wisely! If you chose a plan of greater value than Republic Wireless's Talk and Text plus 2GB of cellular data service plan, any additional service plan cost above the Talk and Text plus 2GB cellular data service plan is not included and must be paid for by you. Republic Wireless reserves the right to cancel the Offer at any time with respect to any customer for any actions, that Republic Wireless determines in its own discretion, are fraudulent or dishonest. You can purchase no more than four (4) SIM cards that are eligible for the Offer during the Offer period. In all cases, the last month of free service available under this Offer will be January, 2018. Once the Offer expires, you will be billed monthly for your then current service plan pursuant to your terms of service with Republic Wireless. We hope you love our service and stay with us a long time. We're excited to have you join!

aren't their newest plans (3.0) T-Mobile based? I heard they may have added 3.0 Sprint plans, but you'd have to buy the phone from them like the old days of RW. The older 1.0 and 2.0 we're Sprint-only with custom-ROM'd phones ordered directly from RW

To be clear, AFAIK, they are NOT like Google Fi that has ~simultaneous T-Mobile and Sprint coverage: you have to order there right sim card or phone for the respective network.

This is correct however if you talk with them directly, you can get Sprint SIM cards. I know this because my family was on Sprint and I convinced them to switch. Then both my mom and dad started having coverage issues with the new phones where their old Sprint phones worked beautifully, so I knew they must be on the T-Mobile network. I told Republic this through the help tickets and they sent both parents new phones with Sprint SIM cards and it works beautifully now.

What are the chances the SIM will work in other, non-compatible phones after you verify it with a compatible one?

nice, I WAS a customer since they left beta, but missed the data refund and the T-Mobile coverage was bad where my family lives.

I've now moved around carriers a bit (more of a hobby), and not sure I really want to go back until they have a more flexible policy on supported GSM phones. Currently planning on moving to cricket with some of my family for the group rates.

Actually, me biggest issue with RW was for the less technically inclined family (mom, wife) that wouldn't realize when their phone would reconnect to a public WiFi network (Lowes as an example), need a user log-in but think it's connected to WiFi, and no messages or calls would come in: Their auto-credential login feature never worked great for us. I had my wife turn off WiFi at Lowes and she got a missed call notification and 3 SMS messages right after. If they have made a fix for this, or a user can work around it, then it was good service at a good price

I think it's zero: you aren't verifying the sim, your verifying the app on the phone you're using with the sim present

Did anyone try this? I am getting charged for the SIM card with $9 total. As per the press release, SIM should be free + Shipping ($4 for me). Or did they sellout already?

How do you know what SIM card is for what network? I didn't realize this was the case. I bought SIM cards when they were first released but haven't used them yet.

Can you port a number in after checking whether their coverage and service are decent? Say after the first month.

To me, their best plan is the 2.0 refund plan. I don't use much data so my $25 plan end up only being ~$10. Down side is I'm stuck with the old moto x.
