So, what exactly is a gayberry?
hot mess avy's thanks to sonofabeech
our hero

Uh, who's gonna take this one?
I'll give it a shot. It's a made up term (I think Briang developed the slang but for some it caught on like wildfire) for any kind of berry or fruit that a person would use to make a fruit smoothie to drink, instead of drinking beer like a manly man, such as Briang. ![]() Some people even speak the language Gayberrolian. How'd I do Matt? |

Another common misconception is that clearer is smoother, and that is generally opposite of the truth. Aged tequila is smoother and more complex in flavor, which is why Reposados are nearly always better than Blancos. Blancos are generally more fruity. This is why they are good for margarita mixers (they complement the lime very well). Like a good scotch, tequila does better with age, it just doesn't take as long. It's also possible to over-age tequila.
Even more complex and flavorful than Reposados are Ajos, which are also very good and aged longer than Reposados. They are also much darker in color, generally very smooth, but they also tend to be rich. I find them a little too rich for me, so I prefer the Reposados in most (but not all) cases.
Another common misconception is that only expensive tequilas are good. What you pay at the liquer store does not have to empty your wallet to be a good tequila. Most important is that the tequila is 100% agave, and not mixed. I've picked up a bottle of 1921 Reposado for $22 before they won their Silver Medal. You can still get El Tesoro 750mL for around $25 if you know where to look, and many other non name-branded tequilas can surprise the hell out of you. In fact, that's how I found 1921. Now it is becoming an incredibly popular brand, deservedly so.

The way you explain it, almost makes me want to take up drinking alcohol!

Now, I am only speaking with regard to 100% agave tequila. I don't drink tequilas that are mixed.

Incidentally, I am by no means slamming blancos. I like them, I just prefer a richer, smoother, more complex tasting tequila, which is why I prefer (in most cases) Reposados.
I'm also not slamming Patron. Patron makes a good tequila, it is just not worthy of its price. Much, much better tequilas can be had for much less money.
