I want to share one trick that worked for me.. you can try logging into your account, click sign up for plex pass and check out... go until the page where it asks you to enter credit card details and then cancel the transaction. I did this and got the email with a code for $74.99 for life this morning. I signed up.
I have read this trick works with other retailers as well, if you leave items in your cart or checkout and then cancel, they may send you coupons in coming days to help seal the deal.
Obviously ymmv, since this all could be a coincidence
Note: worked for at least 1 more person on this thread
I've been using Plex free for years. It's great, what major benefits would I see if I already have Spotify, automatic Dropbox Photo upload and a TV with antenna?

Features I like and paid for: The new DVR function for OTA channels is awesome, cloud support could be pretty cool, being able to play trailers for each movie and have the DVD extras for each movie without having to rip them, syncing movies for offline use, restricting content for my kiddos, for music: having the extra genre/music analysis is neat and lyrics too, for pictures: having the AI scan of my 30,000K photos putting them into genres like (children, PJs, beach, vacation, baby) was cool. Oh and it's small but if I remember right I don't think the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings show up in the free version, could be wrong though. GPU transcoding is also available now for Plex Pass only but I have not tried it yet. So many features and they are always adding!
- Folks who wouldn't buy it at $75 anyways, as they had the chance and never did so, as their ultimate goal is to just obtain it for free.
Actually no, I had a chance to buy it at $75 last year and couldnt because money was tight. I currently have no "need" for Plex pass since plex works fine for what I use it for but if it dropped back down to $75 I would buy it. I see it more as a donation to the company for a good product vs needing whatever extra's you get with Plex pass.
I'm in a condo complex and have virtually 0 OTA coverage. The new OTA bit intrigues me.
If you have ZERO OTA coverage, I don't think that would change for you as you still need to use an antenna with a digital tuner for it to work. It will just give you the ability to record the OTA channels through Plex.
I, myself, have been a fan of Plex for some time now and have been considering paying for the lifetime membership (just out of support and love for the application). The features, while awesome, is not something I'll really take advantage of. I think it's time to give back to the developers that made all this happen.
