What sort of defects might I expect from factory seconds? Anything noticeable? I have never bought seconds in the past.

It can vary. Some will have nothing at all but others will be noticeable scratches. The items without lids are likely to be orphaned pans that have been around the block.

I was just at the fairground sale a week ago, and the worst ones I saw were nickel-sized bumps on the inside of the pots/pans, lids that didn't sit quite right, and round lips of pans that weren't truly round (imagine a very-slightly squished circle).

But the vast majority were just fine - minor marks/scratches/gouges that'll be unnoticeable after a few months' use, finishes that are a little off, etc.
