I am not counting on not needing a new phone before 10/1 - if we get that far, AWESOME, but if not it's not all bad either. Here are my break-even points:
- I have to pay off the balance on my phones through Verizon, my break even point is 2.5 months to make up my balance pay off vs. my Verizon monthly plan payments. But wait - I have phones worth $ that are paid off..... so really...
- When I consider my trade in value on my phones (https://secure.sprintbu
But clearly the BEST case scenario - if we can make it until 10/1 it's well over a grand in savings in the next year AND, personally even after I have to buy a phone plan with Sprint that I'm still saving about $20 per month vs Verizon and increasing data to 'unlimited' - more data and cheaper = good.
I went into my old Ting account -- all 4 phones were listed as inactive but still showing up in the device section. I haven't used Ting in months. I deleted all 4 phones, and now they come up as eligible on the BYOD check on Sprint! So if you were on R+ or Ting, go into your Ting account and delete your phone to get it released.
Now the question is has anyone successfully got an account using a pre-paid phone #? I'd rather not use the MintSim #s because they have many months of service left. My Freedompop #s and google voice #s come up as eligible. Any luck with these for people going all the way through to getting a SIM and activating? Something cheap like an ATT or Tmobile prepaid would be great if it works (FP is a real pain to get port-out info from what I can tell).

A lot of you will be getting surprise bills for almost $120
"Your $30 activation fee is waived as part of this promotion. The fee will appear on your first bill and a credit will appear within 2 bills."
So you'll pay that upfront and get it back as a credit... and if you think about it, that credit probably will pay for most of your year of the fees and taxes if you don't need to upgrade your phone in that 12 month period.
Had to call in to the number at the top of the page, they processed an order for the SIM card and said they would call me on Friday when it arrives to pull credit and activate it.
Not a good sign when the initial process is such a mess, but crossing my fingers.

Edit: Seems other posts and wiki on thread indicate more success than I thought regarding picking up SIMs from stores.
