How do you expect us to know more than Sprint rep? That said two users said yesterday the sprint reps they talked to said promo ends at the end of August in a week
I don't know if this is any indication, but from what I can tell in the fine print on the promo landing page the deal originally had a savings until 7/31/18. Then it changed to 8/31/18, and now it says 9/30/18. So maybe there is truth to it being extended for another month.

So, I know there are a lot of posts on this thread and there's a detailed wiki, but I didn't see my specific question and I'm not sure what terms to search for. So, here goes:

I have an eligible phone based on the IMEI check. However, I don't want to use that phone on this Sprint free line. Can I just use this phone for activation purposes, and then insert the Sprint sim card into whatever phone I want later? Does Sprint do IMEI checks on your phone to make sure you're using the one you signed-up with? Thanks.

Sprint is a CDMA based service, NOT a GSM service.
With Sprint, the device and the SIM card are connected.

You can do what you propose to do except that you can not use "whatever phone". It has to be a CDMA Sprint capable phone and it has to be on the approved list, and you must call Sprint with the IMEI of the new phone and possibly/most likely get a NEW SIM.
You Must be a Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile customer bringing (porting) a new line to Sprint.

Also read this from Sprint:

When can I upgrade to a new phone on this promotion?

If you signed up for the offer before 8/1/17, you can upgrade to a new Sprint phone by leasing or purchasing it in monthly installements after 10/1/17, and you'll still enjoy your free year of service. Any upgrades prior to 10/1/17 will require a plan change to Unlimited data, talk and text and you'll lose the remaining free months in your year of free service.

If you signed up 8/1/17 or later, you can upgrade to a new Sprint phone by leasing or purchasing it in monthly installements after 12/1/17, and you'll still enjoy your free year of service. Any upgrades prior to 12/1/17 will require a plan change to Unlimited data, talk and text and you'll lose the remaining free months in your year of free service.

AND THIS:

What happens if I lose or break my own phone and don't have replacement insurance?

If the phone you bring to Sprint through the Unlimited - Bring Your Phone promotion is lost or breaks, you have options that allow you to keep your first year of free service:

You can purchase a Sprint phone at full manufacturer's retail price, or
Swap out a different eligible phone although a new Sprint SIM may be required
We recommend you sign up for our Total Equipment Protection service to protect your phone. You can add it by calling *2 or through sprint.com/chat within 30 days of activating. Be prepared to provide the IMEI or MEID (Mobile Equipment Identifier) to confirm your phone is eligible.

FOR MORE INFO Read the entire Sprint page here:

https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/of...:1yearfree

AND read the WIKI in the beginning of this thread.

Thanks for clarifying. I had one follow-up: when you say "approved list," does that mean the approved list of phones specific for the promotion, or a more general approved list of Sprint phones?

I do not plan on buying any phones through Sprint at any time through this one-year promotion. I just wanted to activate the promotion using a Google Pixel phone (which is on the eligible list) and then use a Sprint BlackBerry with a clean ESN for the full year of service after getting the sim card. Would this work? All I need to do is give them the info of the other Sprint-capable phone I plan on using and they'll send me a different sim card? Or can we only swap between phones on the promotion eligible list that is in the wiki?

Sprint representative at 866-782-8777 just said it was good until Sept 30th ... Does anybody know if that's true or if it is definitely expiring Aug 31st?

You should call again and speak to a different rep and re-confirm the ENROLLMENT expiration date.

Most likely the Sprint rep you spoke to meant that the free use year after you enroll expires on 9/30/2018, NOT the enrollment deadline for the free one year offer.

Absent a thorough DOUBLE/TRIPLE check with Sprint it is definitely expiring on Aug 31st as of now.

Sprint does NOT make that distinction clear.

The answer to your question may lie in the 2ND Sprint Question that states:

"You can purchase a Sprint phone at full manufacturer's retail price, or
Swap out a different eligible phone although a new Sprint SIM may be required."

Now you should call the Sprint offer toll free # and try to clarify that second question ambiguity with a KNOWLEDGEABLE Sprint rep, SPECIFICALLY to the phone you plan to switch to AFTER 12/1/2017, NOT before or you lose the free year of service.
Some reps may tell you what you want to hear NOW, but when the time comes to switch with that device you may hit a wall.
Without confirming (and double confirming) this with Sprint the safest path is to stick with phones on the promotion eligible list.

Perhaps others here with that issue who have DONE this can shed some light on this ambiguity.

No one has any issue yet to swap with another Sprint phone. Basically you must sign up with the approved phone on the list. After that, you can swap with any inactive Sprint phone. People are still confusing the difference between swap phone and upgrade phone.

One newbie question, I have set up one sprint regular postpaid account because of Bestbuy deal. Now I call them setup this BYOD account, seems different account number, so can I use the same login name to add my BYOD account? or they are totally different different account. Thanks in advance for the answer.

No one anywhere seems to carry unlocked Sprint or CDMA iPhones to activate on Sprint or Virgin Mobile deal. Best Buy B&M is out of stock for the iPhone SE deal, Fry's and Groupon only carry GSM versions. Even Swappa search for unlocked Sprint or CDMA comes up empty. Am I looking for the wrong thing, in the wrong places?

Afraid to get one of these GSM / Verizon only phones only to find out it doesn't work, and have to pay restocking fee. Embarrassment
