NYS has the nations 3rd highest taxes! And NYC itself has the highest taxes and fees of any city in this nation with the double e911 charges and fees we are hit with so it's obvious why NYC residents would want an estimate on how badly they will get screwed on a "free" plan.

$3 for one person in Oregon could be $16 for someone in NYC on this same "free" plan. Don't get me wrong, even at $16 that's still a good deal but far, far LESS of a good deal than $3.

Can anyone in NYC with ONE line reply with how much your TOTAL bill is, including Sprint's mandatory $2.39 charges?

Thank you in advance.

$4.53/line
But, I stand by my previous comment. It doesn't make any difference. Any other plan you get (that's not free) will have taxes in addition.

I'm going to help a friend who's currently out of the country to do this deal. I will do it for them online (when I did mine, I bought my own SIM and called). They will give me the pertinent information to do it. My question (for those that already did the deal online) is: what information (other than their SS# and address) will I need to do this for them online?

Thank you for the info. Just to clarify, this is your TOTAL bill, including the $2.39 Sprint fees?

And what zip code are you in?

Thank you again.

You will need his name, address, ssn, IMEI of the phone he will use on Sprint, and credit card number to start the process online. You will need his account number and PIN number for his current provider to finish the process online when the Sprint sim arrives.

I completed this deal including porting over on Monday, Oct 30th @ approx 3:30pm ET.

The info required and process was:

1. Non-Sprint number to be ported in
2. IMEI number of fully paid compatible phone
3. Social Security Number/Name/Address of would-be account holder
4. Credit Card or Debit Card number (to buy the SIM and/or set up AutoPay)
5. Account Number and PIN of phone number being ported in

Sprint will run a FULL credit check using Experian (which will ding and lower your credit score for "inquiries" and will remain a slight black mark on your credit for 2 years from the date they pull your report, FYI).

You will get an immediate response onscreen as to your credit approval (with a letter coming in the mail explaining their credit results— at least I got a letter detailing my approval).

If your friend is approved for the BYOD 1 Free Year Plan, you will have a chance to buy the SIM card ($2.99) plus shipping fee ($10) and any taxes. Mine came out to $15.05 total (NYC taxes) and was sent UPS Next Day.

If you already have an inactivated Sprint SIM card on hand for your friend, you will still need to put in your friend's details as described above, qualify for the plan, etc. Then go to sprint.com/activatenow and follow the on screen prompts.

At sprint.com/activatenow you will be required to enter the same IMEI and phone number you will be porting in that you used from the beginning of this process along with the SIM card number.

You'll also need to enter the account number, PIN, and the name and address exactly as it's listed on your friend's current service. (If anything is off during this process, the port will not go through and your friend's number can be lost. Please triple check everything before submitting,)

NOTE: I had issues where my "order" to port in and set up my service was put "on hold" by Sprint pending a setup of AutoPay. (I received an email stating that my order was on hold and to call an 800 number. I included a screenshot of the email below.)

Because my number wasn't ported in and on hold, I was unable to set up "MyAccount" to enter my AutoPay details and was forced to call the 800 number listed in the email about the hold and set up AutoPay directly through the agent in order for him to remove the hold and allow my number to be ported in and my account set up.

I asked the agent why all the extra hoop and the hold and he said AutoPay is REQUIRED for the BYOD Free 1 Year Plan before they can setup any account on this plan since AutoPay is required as part of the plan... Umm.. No, we are allowed to not have AutoPay but would be charged $5-$7.99 extra if no AutoPay is set up. Meh...

Anyway, the port went through after that within an hour and my account was up and running with me making and receiving Calls, Texts and using data without a hitch.

Good luck with your friend's account. Cheers!

Thank you VERY MUCH! REPS given! :-)

One question: I had previously been told that if you were using your own SIM, that you could NOT do it online (HAD to do it on the phone). That's how I did it. From what you are saying (other than your weird verification email/phone call), it looks like you can have your own SIM and STILL do it online?

On sprint.com/activatenow, it asks for the SIM card number. One could just enter the SIM card number that they already have on hand, provided that:

1. You have already been approved for this BYOD Free 1 Year promo.
2. It is a new, inactivated Sprint SIM card.

Try it. If you run into a snag, by all means call up that dedicated 800 number and set it up there.

Good luck. Smilie

Is it just me or does nobody else realize the promo states good until 2019, which is over a year away...could that be a typo?...

I scrambled last minute two days ago to get in on this deal, when it said it ended 10/31/17 & most people thought it would end after that date because the T-Mobile Sprint merger fell through.

I did, but don't you think this is out of line with sprints past on this promo ?...they have been extending it only monthly from June,..now they jump to a year & 3 months away...idk, maybe I'm thinking too much into it.

Sprint extended this promo yet again yesterday. It's now good until 1/31/2019. Yay for us!

Mind you, you still ONLY GET ONE YEAR worth of Free service, not free service until 1/31/2019. Sprint is just saying that if you, say, add a line of free service on your account in like March 2018 that they will only honor the promo free pricing until Jan 31, 2019. So sign up all your lines or new account BEFORE 2/1/2018 or lose time off the end of your free year.
