I have considered the friend agument you make but I cannot see that it would honestly be in their interest to add me instead of keeping it to themselves if they do set one up. I aim to be 100% honest and not take advantage of anyone. But I am glad you eaised the topic because I am now thinking of some other possibilities - maybe a second account with a title variation under a trust or corporation or user group but with my SSN or an EIN *might* be allowed.

Have you attempted opening an account using an EIN? This is what I am considering as soon as I find a phone Sprint will acknowledge is "eligible". I have several old Sprint branded smartphones that haven't been used in 6 months to 2 years but all of them are bringing up an "ineligible" error 😡

I got my hands on a nexus 5.
But I don't have any phone number I can port.
So I'm looking at creating an account with a carrier just to port it to sprint
Which carrier should I get a sim a activate it before switching to sprint with this offer?
Regarding price to set up and delivery or accessibility in store and easiness of phone number porting?

Thank you

(edit) Can I just create a new google voice number and pay the $3 to be able to port it?
Will it works even though the google voice number was never used on the actual nexus 5?

1. Follow the advise given to you here in the above posts.

2. Read this in the Wiki:
The only Sprint SIM that will work with the Motorola G5 Plus is:
Part #: SIMOLW506C that's printed on the plastic SIM card holder, with the Sprint SKU #: 760492034500 that's printed on the outside of the SIM envelope under the scan bars.
THIS SIM WILL ALSO WORK IN THE NEXUS 5, BUT if you have an older Sprint Nexus 5 with an older Sprint SIM it should work with that SIM.

3: Is the Nexus 5 from Sprint and/or was it used with Sprint or a Sprint MVNO, or is it from another provider like Verizon?

4. If it was used by a Sprint MVNO its flag needs to be reset back to Sprint.
Read this post to do it:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=107021943&postcount=12540

5. Best way to get a # to port is to get a prepaid T-mobile or AT&T # from one of their stores. It should cost around $10 to get a Sim and activate it on the per minute plan. Use the Nexus 5 as your phone for this GSM Sim card.
The Nexus 5 can use GSM or CDMA Sims.

6. If the Nexus 5 was a Sprint phone there is probably a Sprint Sim inside that can be used, No need to get a new Sprint Sim.
If there was no Sprint Sim inside look at # 2 above to get a new Sprint Sim. The best way is to pay the $10 shipping and get it from Sprint when you call to get this free plan.

I am current on sprint, just ordered Essential as upgrade. How to get the free plan and use Essential on it? Can I port in a google voice number, and activate service on Essential? Or do I need to activate on a different phone, then swap the Essential onto the plan?

How is everyone doing device upgrades with this plan without losing the promo? I've had this promo plan since June, so I know I'm eligible to upgrade, but...

On Saturday, I did an online (store-pickup) order for the Essential deal and the store rep was insistent that I'd have to change plans to take the phone with my me. I cancelled that order and did another one with shipping. Just wondering if I should use the included SIM card with my order or if I should have Sprint activate my new phone with my existing BYOD SIM.

June people should be good to go for upgrade on Sprint website (shipping or store pick up) -- don't change the plan at the store or do any device upgrades at 3rd party retailers (BB/Sams Club/etc)

Store rep was lying -- if you switch plans then they probably get commission for it

You can use new SIM that comes with the new phone

JaTaN's advice (above) is sound, but all on the Free Plan are best served by NEVER doing anything in the store, if nothing else, to avoid the "used car salesman BS"! Smilie

If the phones were used on an MVNO you need to get the IMEI ownership in the database reflagged as SPCS before they will qualify. LiterallyUnlimited can take a look and do that (see other posts).

They told me a business cannot qualify. Wouldn't that mean an EIN would not work? They are going to ask for SSN as far as I know.

Hello, if I cancel my new created lines which is $45 per month for the essential phone deal within 14 days. Am eligible for the one year free line promotion immediately or I need to wait for a period like 45 days? Because the one year free is for new customer. Thanks very much.

Yes, and you would need to hope that the Free Plan is still here in 45 days. Better to open a Free Plan now with another SS #.

I am currently Sprint Customer and trying to find the best way to get this promotion. It is my 14 years with Sprint, but as everyone know they focus on bring in New Customers instead of take care of their loyal customer. So, if there is no way to get this promo, i will probably move on to T-Mobile.
I paid off Essential Phone from the lease program, so i am sure that i have a eligible phones, however no phone number to transfer. Do i need to buy sim card from different carrier to activate the phone, in order to qualify? Any Master or kind person can guided me through the process, highly appreciated it. Thank you.

some have reported that while a number comes ineligible on checker....if they provide telesales rep imei number on the phone, it may work

...to be clear...these have been currently inactive sprint post paid devices and a free plan set up for the first time
