yeah, I called sprint from the phone number provided in the beginning of the thread and the rep says no, but he doesn't seem to be aware of the promo b/c he called the $350 visa promo a contract buyout....

As for the activation, from the thread it seems we can call the number to sign up and request to pickup SIM and activate in store...
You don't want to try to activate the 1 year free in store. There are many posts here regarding that fact and the issues people have had being put on paid plans.
The post you reference says to call to activate. You would go into the store to get a card only, not to activate.

I see.... Oh well, I guess I'll take a gamble, get sim card in store and activate online, and submit for the $350 and see.... Too bad I missed the tmobile $350 one.....

Is there any way to do this with a Verizon S7? It doesn't pass the initial IMEI check, but it should work with unlocked or Sprint firmware flashed on it. If there's no way to do it with that, could I just get another cheap phone, port over, and then get the Verizon one activated or doesn't their network allow it at all?

The problem is they have no way to know that you have flashed it so they assume it would not work (which will be true for 99% of the cases) and they have in fact have even put blocks in their database to prevent staff from white-listing it at user request.

fark Sprint. My device MEID/phone number was eligible (iPad mini 2 T-Mobile) on Sprint website. The SIM card can't be activated and reps told me different stories (device not compatible, can't have 2 accounts).

When I asked for a refund. they could not even find the account for byod promotion. After several hours wasted and 4 5 reps later, they still can not figure out how to process a refund on the SIM card order because there is no associated account. I am going to open a chargeback and stay the fark away from Sprint postpaid.

It is not worth the hassle, even "free (not really free)". Shitty Sprint network, not at all helpful customer service, and unexplained charges. a mvno/reseller would be a much better choice imo

I have Nexus 5X (bought from google for full price) which is already as BYOD in verizon.
Now Sprint says "Sorry, but our records show you still owe Sprint for this device."
I have never been with sprint.

That is most likely the FED flag. Check the IMEI on Ting BYOD , Swappa, and Tello BYOD, and report back the messages you see.

What number did you call? Try calling the porting dept numbers posted on the wiki or 866-437-1818. They may be able to expedite and complete the port.
I too had same issue , have Nexus 5X bought from google 2 years back , currently being used as BYOD in verizon, but still Sprint says ""Sorry, but our records show you still owe Sprint for this device. Sign in to find this device on your account.". Checked IMEI on Ting BYOD , Swappa, and Tello BYOD,- everything was green and ready-to-activate.
Called Google and Verizon and they said it is purely unlocked, you can go-ahead.
Not sure whom to contact as my 4 hour multiple calls had only one answer from rep -- "it is blocked or invalid ownership"

Yeah it is pretty sad that they haven't fixed it. I think they even had iPads listed under eligible phones in faq's when promo started but not anymore. But tablets are supposed to be excluded for free byod.

If they tikd you that they activated your device but your ipad is not actually activated, just wait for 2-3 hours. Their system is slow.

Online activation failed, first unknown error, then device not eligble
rep 1, device eligible, but no account was found, asked for my SSN to do another hard pull to create an account, then hung up on me
rep 2, went on hold for him to look into it, hung up on me again
rep 3, told me I hd to choose between another regular postpaid plan (another phone on a completely different account) and byod plan, can only have 1 account/plan WTF?
......

When I placed the order online, it said save the page for PIN, but no account number/pin was generated..

way too many hours wasted on "free" service

Poor you. I did it successfully without any hard pull. Everything went smoothly.
Are you currently having account with Sprint? I believe if you have any account, you are not eligible.
Tablets are eligible for sure, they asked me to port in my ipad many times ut i refused.

For $25 a month.
They charge that even if you buy the tablet from them (less $5 discount in that case).

Nobody has been ble to activa a tablet free yet.

The checker (and list of eligible devices) only check technical compatibility with the network.

Is this reasonable? Absolutely not, but it is what it is at this point.
