What number do I call to switch to a new unlocked phone on my BYOd free plan? I bought the unlocked Amazon essential phone. I just want to switch from my Moto g5 to the essential. Do I call the promo number to do that?
Definitely NOT. They stand a good chance of telling you you cannot do it and are not the ones who can do it anyway.

Use Tech Support chat for the best experience doing an IMEI SWAP.

If you want to explore phone UPGRADE options with sales, then call the promo number for that (but preferably sort out what you want to do ahead of time and sort out the rules about waiting 120 days etc.).

I heard stories of people using an unlocked Essential phone (not bought from Sprint), then being locked to Sprint after putting in the SIM. Is that still the case?

you mean a sprint mvno branded sprint phone?
A flag sold as Boost, Virgin or Sprint Prepaid cannot be activated on this plan even by flipping the flag, regardless of FED status and regardless of the fact they can be used on MV/NO's. . (Boost, Virgin and Sprint Prepaid are not true MVNO's as they are wholly owned by Sprint but maybe you think of them as MVNO's).

However, there may be no visible branding.

A Tribute HD looks the same whether its origin was Sprint postpaid or was one of Sprint's prepaid divisions. But its IMEI allows Sprint postpaid to reject ones that had prepaid origin.

Tribute HD's that had postpaid origin (as indicated by the IMEI) can be activated on this plan (after flipping the ownership flaf if need be).

My unlocked Iphone 6 from Boost Mobile (a Sprint MVNO) was signed up to this plan without any issue four months ago.
Yes, Boost iPhones can be an exception in some cases but definitely not in others. There are people who got them to work on this plan, but lots of others who did not and had to sell them to get a phone they could use on Sprint postpaid. It may depend on unknown factors such as the whether the sale was categorized as subsidized or not.

But there is no ambiguity on the low-cost Android size. The huge quantity of low cost subsidized Tribute HD's and the like sold under Boost or Virgin or Sprint Prepaid brands will not be accepted regardless of Fed date, regardless of working on Tello, regardless of flipping the ownershp flag (but those sold for Sprint postpaid, unsubsidized, if you can find them, can be activated but you may have to get the flag flipped).

It is all so complicated I really hesitated to even mention it because people almost inevitably get confused and misinterpret.

Someone else mentioned this, but I'll reaffirm that using the online chat is the easiest way. I bought an iPhone 7+ on eBay, chatted and asked for an IMEI swap to the new phone it was very simple. I've read that if you call in regular support they may switch your plan, not sure about the promo number, but the online chat for sure works.

I thought it was extended to 1/31/19. Isn't that what others who have recently signed up for this plan are seeing if they go to Dashboard>Manage Plan>+See Details?
You have a point. Even right now following page https://www.sprint.com/content/sprint/sprint_com/us/en/shop/offers/free-unlimited.html shows ...

It should not be a problem. Just say yes that's right and let it go. FreedomPop or GoogleVoice does not really have any numbers - they just rent them from others. They always show up to Sprint as BandWidth.com or Onvoy or ....

Onvoy is a carrier.

Probably you just got an inexperienced rep. Just try again (after triple checking that the number is correct).

I recently recommended a colleague to sign up for this offer. She called the Promo Number and successfully signed up for the BYOD Free Year Plan. I went over her house yesterday, and had her sign into her online account to see if all was in order. Everything in her online account about appears to be in order (Plan is correctly listed as Unlimited - Bring Your Phone, and estimated costs are just a few dollars in taxes). However, one thing seems out of order. If you go from her Dashboard to Manage Plan>+See Details, she gets the following:

-Unlimited - Bring Your Phone
-Unlimited Talk, Text and Data.
-$5/line/mo up to 5 lines. ($60/line value free with AutoPay until 10/31/18)
-10GB Mobile Hotspot.
-International Text from US.
-Requires $5 per line/per month AutoPay discount.
-Savings until 10/31/18; then $60/mo. for line 1, $40/mo. for line 2 and $30/mo./line for lines 3-5 with
AutoPay.

As you can see, the date is listed twice as 10/31/18. This is the same sdate as in my own account that was opened in September. However, her account was opened on Black Friday, and was a new account as of that day (she has NEVER previously had any account with Sprint.

Anyone have any explanation. Do any others who check see this (maybe not a bad idea to check)? If it's an error, how to fix it?
Can anyone who got this plan on or after 11/1 please check Dashboard>Manage Plan>+See Details and let me know if they see the same?

Before I contact them, I am trying to find out if it is just an error in this account, or if Sprint, in fact, is not extending the end date of this offer for anyone that signed up after it was extended.

I received my sims yesturday but was waiting until tonight to activate my phones.

I just got a unsolicited call from Sprint saying that they would like to help me activate through the phone. He was pretty pushy about insisting I activate through him not online. I said to call back tomorrow because I'm planning to activate online tonight.

Anyone else experience this? I'm just paranoid that he trying to activate me on the non-free account?
Just ignore him.
