This might save someone some time who is moving to iPhone X from the free unlimited plan. Bought the Verizon iPhone X from Apple store. They will give you a sprint sim free but that might not work. Incompatible when trying transfer the number. Went to the sprint store and they can't help as they won't see this plan. They also will give you a some free but that might not work again. After couple of hours, talked to spring online and asked for the type of sim that works with the phone. They gave that to me, it apparently is a simglw426q type. Used that sim and activated and everything is good.

Yes, it absolutely insane that you need different types of SIMs (beyond just the form factor like nano, micro, etc. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sub...le#Formats)) for different phones. Sprint is nutty in this respect.

For iPhone 8, as I posted at https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device-sim-req?v=1&p=108324255&src=SiteSearch#post108324255 SIMGLW416Q will work. Beats me if it'll work on iPhone X. Maybe it doesn't.

Would be curious to know the part # of the SIM that didn't work in iPhone X.

As I posted at https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device-sim-req?v=1&p=108384755&src=SiteSearch#post108384755, I used a whole bunch of different SIMs from other countries in my iPhone 6 and generic T-Mobile SIMs in many different devices w/o issue. Seems like this SIM incompatibility/specific device crap is a Sprint network only thing. It seems to create lots of extra complexity (for stores, their sales and support folks, inventory control, etc.) and headaches (besides creating extra friction) for people who want to BYOD to Sprint.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2015...on-sprint/ that the wiki points to now makes the whole ordeal make more sense to me now.

So what's a good barebones cheap option to get a qualifying phone if you don't care at all about specs/age?

I'm assuming swappa maybe, and if that's the case which phone would be the least likely to break?

Not normal for 1 line. Normal for 3 or 4 lines.
Does it have that bogus $7.99 account spending limit charge?

I have a Free Account with 3 lines. Tried to add an additional (paid) line online. It says "You cannot add any more lines to your account". Anyone ever run into this?

Sounds like they probably got you for the equipment protection plan. If so, just remove it.
