Hi guys I've read through the thread and seems to be the case that the v20 can get activated if you already have a free account/line setup. Just to confirm I am heading to the store soon to get a lg v20 - will pay for it outright and bring it back home - and activate it on a second line. Any potential issues with the plan? Thanks.

Even if u pay full price. Sprint will not sell unless you associate the purchase to a phone number.

If you give your byod number, chances are they will screw things up.

Would strongly advise you to procede with caution.

I Cannot sign up online, after entering SSN I get "Your order requires additional processing, Call 866-782-8777". However phone CSR tells me this is online exclusive and refuses to honor it.

You reached the wrong department for whatever reason (could be Sprint call overflow routing at a peak time).
Just call 866-782-8777 again.
Other departments within Sprint are not allowed to handle this offer and will say what you quoted them as saying.

For best operation you would want to flash the Unbranded ROM or Sprint ROM .

It might certainly be interesting to try it first with the existing ROM to see if it would work at all.

However, my info. provides the following list of bands for the AT&T version so I do not think it would work well at all unless these specs have later been updated by OTA update.

Key Sprint LTE bands 25 and 26 appear to be missing and all Sprint voice bands appear to be missing if this list is still accurate (hopefully it is out of date now).!.

S8/S8+
AT&T Network
Frequencies and Data Type

2G GSM: GSM850,GSM900,DCS1800,PCS1900
3G UMTS: B1(2100),B2(1900),B4(AWS),B5(850),B8(900)
3G TD-SCDMA: B34(2010),B39(1880) China

I'm going to get my sprint sim cards on Wednesday. Will give it a shot without flashing to see if my S8 works.

If it doesn't, does anybody know how to flash the required firmware?

Excellent - that will be fascinating!

I think macrokelvin can perhaps follow up re details of flashing the Sprint or Unbranded ROMs. Either if these supports all Sprint bands, but the Sprint ROM in particular is needed if you want to have Visual VoiceMail and LTE Calling.

You can also update it yourself online if you pursue you way through the online dialogues.

Actually Nickname is not the right field though.

It is the next field over under Caller ID / Edit

Depending on the carrier variant (preinstalled firmware) of your S8, it may work with limited radio bands because the files in the firmware decide which radio bands and features to turn on. Hardware is identical for all variants of S8. To flash to the XAA (US unlocked) or SPR (Sprint) firmware using ODIN to enable all radio bands and Sprint calling features, see below:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=101290036&postcount=1545

There are many ODIN guides out there. I think the following guide may be useful, depending on how much you know how about flashing. Good luck Big Grin

For those that are upgrade eligible, see below for free or cheap iPhones. Possibly a system glitch or a loophole like the Verizon gUDP upgrade. All credit goes to parana. Please don't over do it, or Sprint will come after you. As for all phone deals, there is always a risk. No risk, no rewards Big Grin

I signed up for this deal last week. Porting over an ipad pro. Spent 30 minutes or more on phone with them last week and they declared me eligible for the deal. Was very clear it was for ipad before I ordered. Gave them imei number and verified. Got my sim card today. Called to activate. Another 40 minutes wasted before they tell me "Sorry, you are not eligible for this deal with the ipad." (After reading thru the initial post, I do see the ipad was originally eligible but not on second list.).

I am sorry but their customer service is just horrid. I was a sprint customer for 15 years; treated horribly; ditched them for T-mobile and love T-mobile. I guess this little episode was karma for me being a bit greedy. Not worth the hassle.

I realize it is a nice offer for people switching phones over and the sprint coverage is decent but sort of glad I am not sucked back in
