Correct- it has nothing to do with credit rating. It has to do with proving you are the person you say you are.
If you answer the personal history quiz "wrong" (according to the records of the identity service which are often flawed) they think you may be who you say.

If you cannot get anywhere trying one more time, you can contact
Marci Carris
SVP Customer Management at Sprint.

6200 Sprint Parkway

and she can often override and approve it.
When I went through the personnel history quiz yesterday the first question they asked me made no sense. They asked at "what address did you live with Joe Doe" and gave me 4 options. The problem is that I had never heard of the person they asked about! I have a very common name so maybe they found another person in public records they thought was me. I told them I don't even know that person. After an awkward pause the credit rep said lets try that again. She asked me 4 additional questions that all made sense and I answered them successfully. Credit was approved.

As others have said above here: Forget about GV-Sprint Integration.
BUT do not forget about GV on its own. It's a great and flexible way to use the phone(s).
I've been using GV since it was called Grand Central, that was a company bought by Google and changed the name to GV.

This is a post from the link on post # 13884 below:

"GV definitely has a strategic value to Google and it'll continue especially when Google expands its Google Fiber around the US.
Now, the GV-Sprint integration will be lost for all the legacy Sprint #s that already have it after the T-Mobile-Sprint merger but you can use the CFF, Conditional call forwarding, described by Bluescat above, as a rough substitute for the GV-Sprint integration.
Right now for Sprint, *730 disables CCF and *73 enables it so if you do a CCF to your GV tel # from your Sprint phone, say *732135555555, all your "No-Answer" and "Busy" calls to your Sprint cell # will be forwarded to your GV # where they can be recorded/transcribed/logged/emailed, and if your GV # is also set to forward calls you can set any forwarding cell # you want.
GV is great if you do a lot or any overseas travel since you can get emails from GV of your USA cell calls overseas where in some cases/places you do not have cell service for your USA cell phone and/or the overseas cell service is very expensive to use your USA cell #, and you have a cheap prepaid local SIM card or another way, maybe free WiFi, to get your GV call emails and call/text/email back if required."

On GV-Sprint integration it's very important that you read my post here:

https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=109725939&postcount=13884

and for alternatives by maroonhoo here:

and this:

https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=105182456&postcount=10380

After you read the above you should be an expert on GV!
Thank you and everyone else. I understand that GV is used for ease of access throughout various devices, call forwarding and such. However, I may be trying to use the wrong program for the wrong reason. Here is my reason for wanting GV w/ Sprint # (which I now know won't work);
Sprint doesn't support wifi calling on my Nexus 6P. I was attempting to circumvent lack of wifi calling coupled with poor cell phone reception in my area. This is the only reason. I'm not trying to use another #, I'm not trying to make another # appear on people's phone when answering. In essence, I don't want to have 2 #'s for the purpose of using one via WiFi. Am I using the wrong app for what I want?

Side note: For people who have poor call quality (at home), Sprint has airave. This device can improve the quality of your calls, but I think it must be connected to your WiFi and it cannot be moved.
I am not into that, but others may be.

I had a similar experience. I barely squeeked by, by figuring out in my case the answer they were looking for. I am going to try to get Equifax to clean up their records on me, starting by filing an identity theft report with identitytheft.gov (which counts as a law enforcement agemcy) - I did have an attempted fraud a few months ago.

That would avoid the main problems for me.
But I have a feeling Sprint will be moving to more general, powerful, and revenue-generating solutions than Google Voice, like this TMobile one:

https://newsroom.t-mobile.com/new...digits.htm

Sprint will have to match that soon and I am sure they will. They will not want to do anything further to collaborate on the use of Google Voice, since it will be a competitor to their own carrier-based innovations in this area.
Yeah, other carries have similar products in this area. Unfortunately, based on my personal experience, none of them are as reliable as GV. Since this is not their revenue business, they simply put less development resources to it than Google does to GV.

You'll probably do best by requesting that Sprint send you a Magic Box:

https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/se...etmagicbox

But they are a bit difficult to get and they are OOS at the moment, I think, but they're free.
The Sprint reps will do their best to avoid sending you one.
But they'll check to see if there is a Band 41 cell tower near you and since the MB only works with Band 41 you will not get one if there is no Band 41 tower in your area.
I do not know the current Band 41 Sprint coverage around the U.S.A., but it may only be available in cities/large cities.
Call Sprint customer service, 1-800-SPRINT1, and tell them that your data/LTE speeds are very low, 1Mb or so, and ask them to transfer you to the MB ordering dept.
Only that dept can order one for you, no one else. It's located in Oklahoma City.
You must strongly insist to get one BOTH with the Sprint customer service and with the MB ordering dept. Do not take no for an answer! Call again if necessary.
The MB only helps with LTE data, NOT voice.

But if you have a good LTE/data signal then you can register with GV, get a separate GV #, and download the GV app in your Nexus 6P so that you may make/receive calls over the LTE data connection using GV.
When you set up the GV app in your phone you have the option to set it up so that you have the choice each time you make an outgoing call to use your device's phone # and go thru the Sprint cell system or the GV phone # and go thru the Sprint LTE/data system.
For incoming calls over the LTE data connection you must receive calls to your GV # or thru your GV # and you can do that by using the call forwarding described in the other post above. That is, set up your Sprint phone # to be forwarded to your GV # and your GV # to ring your Nexus 6P. If you have other phone #s you can set up GV to ring them too and you can answer the one most convenient to you.

Your gmail goggle account will be connected to your GV # so when you're logged in to gmail in your PC, the PC will ring too when you receive a GV call.

There may be other ways such as sip apps/etc. but that's all I can think for now using GV.

Google has an app. that provides wifi calling.
It is called Google Hangouts.
Better yet, you can set it to display your regular main number for outgoing caller id. However, this option to use your regular number for outgoing caller id only shows up in Hangouts if you do NOT have Google Voice. (If you have Google Voice anywhere on your Google account, Hangouts will force you to use your Google Voice number for outgoing caller id).

So I would try Google Hangouts.

Thanks everyone who provided good details in this thread. I was able to sign up for this promo.

This is for guys who are planning to do the promo before 31st jan or whenever the promo is up.....

Required :

1. An eligible phone and its supported sprint sim
2. Account no. and pin for the no. you porting in to sprint
3. An hour of time

process followed:

1. Call 866-782-8777
2. Ask for signing to BYOD 1 year free plan promo
3. provide requested details like personal, social etc ( if required will get another person from credit check dept. and validate the details). In my case, this wasn't required and everything was taken by the rep I spoke to.
4. Once everything clears up and line was created, setup Auto pay(else you will be charged $7.99 for payment protection plus plan payment) and try to decline device protection ( if they say to wait for a week and then call back to another no. to remove it - which was in my case, i said ok and ask to remove it through chat).
5. You will be asked to restart your device for couple of times till the activation complete and test for voice, data and text.

Good luck...

Good outline!
I am cynically guessing they said to wait a week to remove device protection so that they get the commissions locked in on their side. Probably the commissions get charged back to them if the customer cancels the device protection too quickly. This by the way explains why the agents back off immediately during the initial order if you tell them you will be calling Billing right after the call to cancel any such extras on the order.

Personally I would do billing chat right afterward to remove it immediately same day. Another poster earlier said if you do it immediately like that, it never appears on your bill.

But some will sympathize with the underpaid Phillipino sales staff and do it their way, which is their choice. I have never in 3 times even let them put it on the order in the first place. The agents obviously are under a lot of pressure to add it. I guess that's one of the main ways Sprint hopes to pay for this promotion (others being "upgrades" and the tablet promotion).

Correct. Just did the chat with billing dept. and rep was able to remove it and confirm no other additional features added.

How did you know the protection plan was charged to you?

Also, I read your outline. Thanks, repped. It sounds like it's best to call in on a different phone than the one I'm porting my number from. I'm going by the mention of having to reboot the phone. But that would also imply that the porting takes place immediately, while you on the line with the salesperson. Is this correct? What do people do if they don't have a 2nd phone to call in with ?

Do the extra lines require port also? I have a line on Virgin Mobile and I'd like to keep the phone number. Should I port this out to H2O and port to Sprint? I have an eligible phone already

The rep has informed me about device protection along with payment protection while explaining the terms and conditions.

Yes, I used my other no. to call in and yes, porting completed in less than 10 minutes along with activation in sprint system by the rep.

Do the extra lines require port also? I have a line on Virgin Mobile and I'd like to keep the phone number. Should I port this out to H2O and port to Sprint? I have an eligible phone already
Per my conversation with rep, yes, you will need to have 1. eligible phone with new compatible sim 2. A number to port in. Also he specifically mentioned that this can only be done by calling 866 782 8777.

Hangouts is good. I've tried it the last couple of hours. Have it set up to display my Sprint # as you mentioned. I can make outgoing calls w/ it, but I can't receive incoming calls through it. All the online research I did somehow involved Hangouts w/ GV or Fi. So none applied to me. Anyways, I appreciate it. This actually one step closer to what I am looking for.
