Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I didn't see your post till just now. OK, insurance companies are an exception, but there is a purpose and it affects how much you pay. I get their best rates because I have such good credit and live in a good zip code. That isn't the case with wireless companies. And I know of no cable companies who ask for it. Cox doesn't and they're probably the 2nd largest.
Xfinity does, they even ask for last 4 digits when you call them, but it's been 10 years since I initially signed up with them though.

Why do you need my SSN? Will this affect my credit score?

Your social security number is used to perform a credit check that will affect your credit score. This may allow us to waive the security deposit for your account. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) also has rules for all companies to have a system in place to prevent identity theft. The credit checks allow us to fight fraud and protect our customer base.
Hope you know what complete BS that is. What security deposit? Seriously, watch for your FICOs to go down by 10 to 15 pts.

I agree with you.

I just posted it (from Cox's site) as to what Cox's policy is. It seems that even Cox does now ask for SSN's.

The government should pass a law forbidding the use or storage of SSN's except for government purposes.

I missed the fact that it's from Cox. I got an account with them a few months ago but don't remember them asking for it. It must not have impacted my scores very much. But yes, they probably do charge some a deposit for the equipment. There is no equipment with BYOD cell service.

I have a poor credit score..The sprint rep asked me my security questions I was guessing on the answers. I'm sure I answered some wrong. I got approved for all three of my lines on the spot.

Well check your hard pulls. They didn't ask me for my SSN, but somehow I got a hard pull from them. Freaky stuff

Are you talking about Cox? I'll check. But my scores didn't go down, and if they did it was minimal.

They went down far more about 10 years ago when I decided to get a Target Red Card. I bought a TV with it but didn't like it and returned it 2 weeks later. I paid off the card immediately, but my FICOs still went down about 20 pts and it took a year to get them back up to where they were. I was told it's because they department stores use low quality banks to back up the cards.

On what phone exactly?
Some older phones do not support Sprint's high-speed band that now carries the majority of data traffic on the Sprint network.

Does it really matter? Is 10-15 points worth that much? Not sure what your point is complaining about it here. No one here can do anything about it.

Yeah.. my credit score is well over 700 and I just got denied. The online option said there was a problem on their part and I had to call the 8777 number. I called the number, went through the account setup and credit check and got denied. WTF?!?

Did they say why?
Did they ask you identity questions about where you lived in the past or what cars you owned in the past etc?
Did they give you any alternative way to prove your identity?
Are you a previous Sprint customer?

They wouldn't tell why. They asked me the identity questions (I maybe missed one about the model year on a previous vehicle), but I wasn't given any other options for verifying my identity. They said I was denied, would maybe receive a letter explaining why in a few weeks, and could try again after 60 days. My wife is on Sprint, but I have never had a line with them.
