Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Thanks, repped. Nobody at Sprint support mentioned that to me. I'll try it. Where did you find it? I googled it but nothing came up

Edit: tried it and it works. Interesting. Through that I found out I have an email address with Sprint that I didn't know about. It is: (my full name) @sprintpcs.com
I remember searching about band locking and finding this code. However, I do remember that depending on the phone, if the other one didn't work, it might also be #DATA# or ##DATA# or #DATA##. I have a Nexus 6P. I'll see if I can find a link about it and share it.

edit: alright. I won't search. for the link anymore.

Yes, I saw that too some time ago, but I am not interested in using it so it's quite worthless for me. Anyways, did you find the APN settings?

Yes, bottom of the list. But it only showed 3 categories. Maybe that's all there are.

I know that there are many hidden menus that are made visible by using certain codes like that one. I used one a few times to find battery info, for example. They work on some phones and not on others.

That message does not necessarily indicate a problem.
Everyone in certain caregories has to call (for example if you ever had a prior Sprint account because they need to close off the prior account).
Everyone using their own sim is another category that has to call in.
Or those whose phone needs special consideration.
So your odds are still excellent.

Just called them and was denied.. credit ding for nothing.. Frown

Doubt it. It is not the credit score that is the problem, it is the verification.
Unbeknown to millions of people in this country the phone companies keep your data long after they are required to for any billing purposes which becomes more clear when you realize who they sell their data too.
The credit companies and all their 3rd party affiliates can literally allow or disallow you to use your own identify.
It is almost guaranteed that it is a 3rd party security company that has some hold on your credit or identity and since our laws give more privacy rights to corporations than individuals you are going to find it near impossible to figure out who it is.
In our case it was a security company reading all our info out of an At&t database to verify our identity.
Ask me how I know? Because I put specific fake details in all the info I have given out in the last 20 years so when someone asks me if I have ever lived at so and so address, I know who leaked it / stole it / sold it / etc...

I have 6 APNs in total: SPCS Global, Sprint, Sprint (yes, twice), internet, ota, and pam. I forgot which one I had on b/c I'm doing some calls now and I can't check.

No APNs were selected when I hung up and checked. Though I am on wifi, I believe it was b/c there was no data (b/c of the call). I disabled wifi and went back in there and internet was selected as my APN. My device is non-sprint and my Sprint Sim is 406C. Not sure if these details are relevant to the APNs I'm seeing.

APN settings are in the dialer code *#*#DATA#*#* (at least on my phone). I have no idea about it so I don't mess w/it. If you do take a look at them, mind telling me the differences between them? Thanks.
The dialer code above, *#*#DATA#*#* works on the Essential Phone and will probably work on the Pixel Google phones, and some others like some Moto phones.

The dialer code *#*#72786#*#* works on the above phones to do a carrier reset and device provisioning with the provider and resets them to factory defaults.
Some Android phones use ##72786# and others some different codes.
I think Virgin uses ##VIRGIN#

As roadrun777 says, in 90% of the cases it is not a credit problem. It is "proving" you are who you say you are by answering questions about where you lived, what cars you owned, etc. Those databases are a mess and full of errors.

If that's what it was and you are still interested, I can post an executive contact in Sprint (or search for Marci Carris) who can work around that if you want.

FWIW, I spoke to a VERY nice rep in the Philippines (I added another line to this plan). She told me that her management has told her that the Free Plan WILL be extended into February. YMMV.

Darn, wish I'd known that yesterday morning. Oh well. Not a huge loss, and at least I was able to be approved easily, unlike some.

I received my SIM yesterday and WOW what a major nightmare getting this service activated! My expectation was that once I completed the "verification" of my IMEI and Phone Number and the credit check online from the link for this deal, I would get the SIM, slap it in to my phone, do some type of online process to finish the port of my number, and be on my way with a free year of service!

In the Wiki for this deal it says:

"ORDER / ACTIVATION:
To get the free service and activate online you need to click the free year promotion linkhttps://www.sprint.com/1yearfree, check your eligibility and order a SIM card there. Once you receive the SIM you can activate it online - quick and painless and guaranteed to be put on the free BYOD plan. After initial activation, more free lines can easily be added but only by calling the promo number @ 866-782-8777."

This was not the case for me. You cannot activate the SIM online without an account number. I was never given one. So after almost two hours on the phone with various reps (one of which hung up on me despite my being nothing but nice,) I finally decided to call 866-782-8777. The rep was very nice and basically it seems like the process I had already done online to order the SIM meant absolutely nothing. Still had to verify my IMEI, Phone Number for porting, and then do the credit check.

Some of you are thinking "yeah, that's how it's done." OK, then my quote from the Wiki is wrong. Or you're thinking "dude, this is covered in this thread. Read!" 1,019 pages right now. Uh-huh.

So I'm done and thrilled to have a year of free Sprint service, but to save anyone the hassle that I went through (receiving the SIM card with NO instructions on what to do and not having an account number to do anything online such as creating an account or dealing with reps,) just call 866-782-8777 once you have your SIM. Or like some have said, if you have a SIM you don't have to order it.

TGTO - Thank God That's Over. WOW.

Enjoy!

Me too. I was in an old MetroPCS family plan of 4 which included 3gb of 4g lte. They refused (rightfully) to upgrade us to the unlimited lte plan for the same price (promo) because it was only for new customers. Since any changes in that plan would result in the loss of the price, I told them to switch my line to another plan we had separately (2 line plan) and they did it. Unbeknownst to them, I then ported out leaving the 4 line plan untouched.
