I would check it on https://ting.com/byod first.
If that says it is good for CDMA and GSM, then the above is the problem for sure.

If Ting says GSM only, then we have another problem which will be that it failed to get added to the Sprint database, which can be remedied a different way.
See https://community.sprint.com/t5/N...d-p/466368 [sprint.com]
Ting says GSM only. I see the problem in that thread, but what is the solution?

You will have to get one of the following to add the phone's IMEI to the database:
- Call the 8777 number during the daytime and ask them to escalate it to add the IMEI
- Ask on https://community.sprint.com/ They can do it.
- Ask at a Sprint Repair Center near you or a store manager of a corporate owned store. You can take along a printout of that thread in Community.

Can I use any phone on Google voice?
Google voice is like voip service and can be used on phones, computers, etc. You use google voice as number to port in(instructions in wiki). You will also need an eligible phone and correct sprint sim card to work on Sprint. The eligible phone does not need to be active on number before you port in.

Check on ting.com/byod and see if it says good on CDMA and GSM or just GSM.
If it says just GSM, I would call the vendor and tell them it will not activate on either Sprint postpaid or on a Sprint mvno and ask what to do..

You could work on certain things but I would ask them first. They probably know what the problem is.

Another Amazon Moto purchaser had a similar problem, but for others the phones have activated fine. There may be sku mixups or some such.
Thanks for the response. Checked on Ting.com it says works for both GSM and CDMA.

Well that is very odd then because it is supposed to be a new phone in your case is that right?
Have you tried the IMEI yourself in the checker at
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/br...phone=byod

What does it say?

Make sure you use a phone number that is not Sprint, not Sprint mvno.

If it says it is ok, then the rep. just typed it in wrong.earlier or the database got updated since then based on the inquiries (surprisingly this can happen) and will activate ok now.

Has anyone tried a pre-activated number port information bought from ebay?
Does it really work to port to Sprint?

Haven't tried.

GV should take about 24 hours or you can try to call the porting dept from wiki to push it through.

Is it a year from when you sign up or do you get it free till 4/2019? Can anybody who signed up recently confirm?
Any update/answer on this? I'm looking to come back to this deal. I had gone to Verizon to take advantage of Black Friday 2017 deal.

Does anyone know how long should I stay out of Sprint before coming back to this promotion?

To port a number, you need proof of ownership. Usually phone number, acct. number (if different from phone number), and pin are sufficient for a prepaid number. They can ask for more info like name and address if this info is on file. The number from eBay sounds fishy and possibly illegal. I would not use it

Oh..ok. ..last time many months ago GV had taken 4-5 days for me so I was bit reluctant this time...
If calling porting Dept can make it fast then I will go with GV..

Thanks

If you sign up new now, it is until April 30, 2019. People have confirmed that and it says it in the offer clearly as well.

If you want to be a new customer, to get that, you cannot have had an account under your SSN in the last 45 days.

However it is better to switch to a family member's SSN as that can be done right away.

If you close your existing account, you might be left out if they end the offer suddenly.

Thanks! How about adding in a new line to existing account? My co-worker has this promo since last June. Will adding in a new line to his account get the same offer of free till Apr 2019?
