Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

You are looking at that from your point of view which requires flashing.

Just adding it to the whitelist would not help non-technical users who did not flash their phone. It is true that Sprint may whitelist it a little ahead of the availability of brand switching and a few advanced users may wait for that, but there is no indication that is near for S9 users.

Sprint does not add phones to the list so that users can flash them to the unbranded model. It adds them when brand-switching is ready or nearly ready.

I am glad you got your Note 8 flashed and working though.

The big picture (apart from a handful of technical users who flash) is that Sprint has not added the S9 IMEI's because brand-switching is not nearly ready yet. When it is almost ready, it will add them. It would give a bad user experience to add them too far ahead, not to mention a significant support load from users who could activate their phones but they then did not work.

People like to understand the overall rationale for a policy, not just the mechanics of it.
I think you misunderstood me. I'm saying that even if Samsung came out with carrier switching firmware tomorrow it won't work until Sprint add the imei to their database. Thus carrier switching is not the important factor. Sprint adding imei to their database is.
Also the unlocked models and unlocked firmware is also carrier switching. They just have the added benefit of no bloatware.

Literally speaking, yes, the immediate block is the database. If you want to focus on that, fine.

But if Samsung came out with brand switching firmware tomorrow, then Sprint would add them to the database. They would love the business. The main reason they are not in the database is that they would not work anyway (unless flashed). so putting them in there too far ahead if time would give many users the bad experience of being able to activate and port in their phone, only to have it unusable.

But the other way round, say Sprint added them tomorrow, would not influence the timetable (except for a tiny number of users who flash).

So the brand switching availability is the driving factor overall. The availability date of that is what will drive everything else. And that is controlled by Samsung, not by Sprint.

I am trying to give the person perspective. Yes, literally speaking, Sprint will have to add them to the database AND brand switching will have to be available for the S9 (order does not matter except for flashing users prepared to throw away key features).

The carrier switching to Sprint on the unbranded model S8 and S9 has been grossly inferior so far because it does not enable Sprint Visual Voicemail or Sprint LTE Calling beta and probably other network-related features.

This type of hot swapping SIM cards only works with GSM carriers in general.
Go to a corporate Sprint store or call customer service, you'll need a new SIM card.

Sprint requires a compatible SIM part number for the phone

Buy the $10 Boost Mobile triple SIM kit from BB or Target -- use the 506TQ part number SIM that comes inside with your S9

You can online chat with CS to swap the new SIM+phone on your existing line -- tell them you want to do a device swap and give new phone MEID + new SIM ICCID

Yes if it is for an iPhone you can bring it to an Apple store in person and they will give you the correct Sprint sim for that iPhone model free.
Thanks!
Do I need to sign up with Sprint before going to the Apple store. Would the Apple/Sprint sim tied to work with one particular Iphone ?

What's stopping a non-iphone user to get the sim card from the Apple store ? (As long as they carry an iphone with them to the store). Is the sim locked to the IMEI or the phone type ?
If yes, then if my phone suddenly dies, can I not just move my sim to an android phone ?

You do not need to sign up first. You may not even need to bring the iPhone but I just suggest bring it so that they are empathetic and also so they give you the right sim card.
Sprint has about 30 different types of sim cards and you have to have an exact match to a correct sim card for your model.

I am sure some people do use some of the sims from an Apple store in non-Apple phones. Some sims work in some Apple models and in some non-Apple models so if someone wants to play that game, including move them around, they can, reregistering them with Sprint each time as needed. But on average, odds are they may need a different sim for any different phone.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 from AT&T and if you are on the latest firmware (Android 8.0 Oreo), then switching carriers is a breeze. All you have to do is insert the Sprint SIM, you will get a pop up and if you hit restart the phone reboots with all Sprint provisioned features and Apps installed. It just works...I tried and my Note 8 from ATT was eligible or the IMEI was added to the Sprint DB.

With the Oreo update Note 8 switching carriers firmware is enabled

Great - I was hoping Samsung would add the brand-switching capability for the Note 8 with the Oreo update - one could see it coming when Sprint added the other carrier Note 8 IMEI's to the database recently, obviously in anticipation of the Samsung brand-switching Note 8 update being deployed across all carriers.

We previously went through this same sequence with S8.

S9 is still to come (and might be months).

I just checked and https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/br...phone=byod
still lists only "Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Special Edition"
but I predict ithat the web-page will be updated within days to be like S8, which was updated earlier to include all carriers and so now reads:
Samsung Galaxy S8 (Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile)
Samsung Galaxy S8+ (Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile)
Samsung Galaxy S8 Special Edition
Samsung Galaxy S8+ Special Edition

Got the sim card from Apple store. However, the online process forces me to order sim card after credit check. Online chat told me I have to order a new sim for the 1-year deal. Asked me to call in telesales tomorrow (closed now).
Anyone done this before with an existing sim card ? I call in, they create my account, add sim info and then I put in the porting request to republic wireless (which is what I'm porting from) ?

The number being ported in can come from anywhere (except Sprint or its MVNO's). For example, TMobilePrepaid, H2O (requires delay for port out) , AT&TPrepaid, Google Voice ($3, can be slow), FreedomPop (can be slow) , or search Ebay "number for porting" (some do not recommend this last way). It does not need to have been associated with the phone you activate.
What is the best fastest service to port in from? I was given an android note phone that was used by another sprint member with another phone number.

You cannot use the web app with your own sim card.

You have to call in Telesales 866-782-8777 to use your own sim card. Most people here do it that way and recommend doing it that way in many posts and I was going to mention it but assumed you had been reading such posts since you asked about using your own sim card. There are too many problems doing it through the web app.

You cannot do anything to do with this offer through online chat or dealers. It is call or click only.

Telesales will place the Port-in request with RW. They have to do it. You must not cancel your RW account yourself. You give Telesales the port details provided to you by RW to port out of your RW account. I assume your RW number is not a Sprint number because if it is it would not be eligible. RW numbers are Tmobile or VOIP numbers now is that right? If so they would be fine.

my 2 lines comes out to like 9.xx a month, which includes a $5 administration fee- which is bogus. But oh well.

Has anyone changed phones within that 120 day period? I was told if I change the IMEI i'll lose the plan.
