Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Eventhough reps don't have reliable info. I would rather hear that then ending.

Is it a Sprint number?
was it originally issued by a small local telephone company somewhere?
Do you have Sprint coverage in your area?

After spending 1.5 hours on the phone between T-mobile & Sprint I finally got everything to go through with port out/port back in to get the deal again.
How long should the port back in take? It only took about 10 min from Sprint to T-mobile, but its been 30 min now and it still hasn't been ported back into Sprint. I have another phone I wanted to do tonight but I'm waiting until the first 1 goes through because I don't want to risk being without both phones.
PS, I asked the phone rep for the 1 year free plan how late they work the phones and he said 12 eastern for what that's worth.

Quote from comintel :
GSM and CDMA are both almost obsolete.

The combined company including Sprint will move toward all LTE and VoLTE and support GSM and CDMA only for backward compatibilty with old phones as a function of how many customers still have old phones.

All newer Sprint phones for the last couple of years are already GSM compatible anyway and roam fine on GSM in Europe using the existing Sprint sim. So supporting GSM bands and roaming is already built in and does not require any change to the phones. They can just update the PRL's to include the TMobile towers.

You are right that GSM phones have been cheaper and more universal. However, all that is breaking down to a certain extent too with many of those phones sot supporting VoLTE on AT&T etc. Everybody now wants VoLTE and Wifi Calling and those issues are not GSM issues or CDMA issues.

But I agree it will be good if we can use the widest possible selection of phones on deals like this.

On Sprint you need band 41 support currently though for higher speeds. That is not going to change overnight. Sprint has excess capacity on band 41 which is partly why deals like this are possible. TMO does not have excess capacity to give away like that so I do not think you would ever see an unlimited data free deal on TMo..
Thx for the intel. So GSM/CDMA is basically just for legacy reasons? I must say I'm a little confused now. If all modern phones are using LTE (which I wasn't aware was it's own protocol) most of the time, what's the point of a GSM/CDMA distinction at all? Seems like people would be willing to forgo the 5% of the time they're connected at less than LTE speed...

For me (phone nerd) I just meant the practical effect is being on Sprint I cannot buy Huawei or One Plus unlocked phones for example, and or most ZTE's, Alcatel, Blu, probably Nokia (not sure about that one) and whatever else, many of which are pretty compelling in the very low cost segments. For example the upcoming One Plus 6 looks to be amazing, but it'll be off limits to me on Sprint as it will be GSM. Of course only for a year and of dubious importance. It's just that the average unlocked phone is GSM only, even some Samsung's. The major exceptions are the flagship Samsung's and Motorolas that are GSM+CDMA (meaning, it's really ONLY Motorola for low price CDMA unlocked). Maybe the essential phone (not sure about that one either)?

Ask to be transferred to the port department directly if not already done. Oh the custo,er service side of the port department may be closed as I recall. I think they close at 9 pm.
Also call the Tmo port department.

I agree with you on those points.
Yes LTE is its own standard.
GSM/CDMA will soon just be for legacy reasons. They still have a foothold in voice though - Sprint is indeed the laggard there. But they too have VoLTE coming up later this year.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately the rep said the port department closes at 8pm ET so I'll need to call back tomorrow morning at 10am ET. He did say the port has gone through and he gave me a couple of numbers to dial (##25327# and ##873283#) but neither one did anything so he said the port department would need to handle because he thinks its something with my phone (moto g5+)
