I tried searching on the 1219 pages this thread generated, but can't find the answer I'm looking for. Here's the question:
If I have an eligible beater phone lying around (iPhone 6, unlocked), can I sign up for this offer without "porting" from a current phone plan ? Pretty sure there's no longer a phone # connected to this iPhone 6 anymore...
thx
it has to be a port in so it will need a number with it. just sign up for a prepaid tmobile number

I got republic wireless Sim for a number to port into Sprint, but I don't have specific phones that republic wants.

Is there any other cheaper (less than $10) way to get eligible port in numbers?

You can sign up a google voice number and then unlock it with $3. I just did it last week.

1. No .

You can use the original Sprint Sim card used with RingPlus.

In fact I have done so. Sprint sim cards are never specific to a given MVNO.

The rest I leave to others more familiar with TMo.

2 should be NO too though. I have ported numbers from TMO Preoaid without even having a TMO sim card (using a "number for port" from EBay).
Thank you so much and rep'ed. Could someone more familiar with TMo help with the questions?

1. To activate the TMo sim and get a new number etc, is it correct to call 1-844-740-2981...? Or is it a different phone number to call?

2. Also, during the TMo sign-up step, do we need to use the name of the person who will be signing up for the Sprint BYOD later?

3. What should we ask the T-mobile agent for? Account number, Phone number, PIN. Anything else?

Regarding the device upgrades - I know you can upgrade after the initial 120 days - but is that only through Sprint.com or can you get a device at Best Buy or Costco for example?

  • Go to the T-mobile pay as you go page and call that number.
  • No, you don't need to use the same name
  • Your T-mobile acct # is the 1 + your phone #.

Well, on to round 2. Another free year, yeah! I cannot believe the hassle one has to go through to get everything setup. The one thing that keeps me going in the price. I guess you get what you pay for.

My port out and back in for another spin experience on a Sprint iPhone 5S:

- Purchased the much discussed T-Mobile prepaid SIM kit from Amazon (8.95)
- Put T-Mobile SIM in an extra unlocked Samsung and called the 800 number on the card
- Followed the VRU prompts but the system could not read my IMEI so I had to talk to rep
- Gave rep what she asked for including the info to port my Sprint number over. Created a 6 digit PIN and told her that I had not decided on what plan yet but just to set it up a Pay As You Go and I would fund the account later. She said I had 72 hrs to do that. I said no problem,
- 10 minutes later, received text from T-Mobile saying the port was successful
- Checked the IMEI checker on the Free Sprint for Year eligibility page and received a green check. Just so you know, I did not doing anything to the iPhone. Left the SIM alone.
- Used my wife's SSN and created a new account (WHAT A PITA!)
- Ported number back from T-Mobile. Sprint rep asked for carrier porting from, account # (1 plus 10 digit phone number, number to port, name, PIN and last 4 of my SSN. Name does not matter and gave her the last for digits of my phone number for SSN. It does not check.

Did this last night right before bed. Let it sit over night. Data worked this morning but not making a phone call. Had to put in the ##87????# (something like that) to reset the network settings. Everything golden after that. I am good until 5/31/19 now.

Time to Lather Rinse and Repeat 2 more times for the rest of the lines under my acct!

Good luck

FAQ on Sprint site says only via Sprint.com or call to Sprint 866-782-8777, not through dealers or any other channel or you will loose the free plan. (Editorial: They do not want to pay commissions to other sellers on the free plan and if they get billed for them by your going through other channels, you're off the free plan. This plan only makes sense for them if they get all the profits from upgrades).

Please, read the terms as are written by Sprint, NOT as you would like to read them and re-write them:

Add a Line: Add a line at any time with port-in from postpaid carrier and Bring Your Own Eligible Phone up to the max. number of lines & get promotional pricing until 5/31/2019.

It clearly says: "Add a Line: Add a line at any time ............... & get promotional pricing until 5/31/2019.

It clearly says: "ADD A LINE AT ANY TIME.............(With these conditions ........... and these benefits) ............. UNTIL 5/31/2019.

It does NOT say, as you state: ""any time" while the promo is going on."

And, most certainly, most everyone here looks at the above as an additional bonus/benefit OPTION that MAY BE exercised in the future, NOT as a risk taken!
And, certainly, Sprint would LOVE to have more customers adding more lines, as it increases the chances of retaining more of these customers/lines and converting them to paying customers.
The Sprint retentions dept. has been offering $200 bonuses to customers calling to cancel in order to keep them as customers. It is extremely unlikely that Sprint will not honor the above terms that it wrote itself of adding another line (customer) to this plan and alienate any customers!

Read the terms here:

https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=114919803&postcount=17409

Everyone who opened a line here, and who may wish to open a line later, has the Sprint email with the above terms, CLEARLY STATED BY SPRINT, to rely on.

In any case, in a couple of weeks or more after this offer expires and customers attempt to add "free" lines to this BYOD plan we would know the outcome of this!

Quote from zeugma :
You're not even thinking clearly (plus I had to tone down your oversized text). The "until 5/31/2019" modifies "get promotional pricing", not "add a line". Get real unless you see a way to add free plan lines without the promo dept being there, as that's the only way to get on the plan. Now if they are offering retention rebates against paid plans that's another matter, but as you know the new owner is T-Mobile and whatever data points from the past should be wiped clean, starting from the sudden ending of the promo. If they were going by the old money-losing Sprint logic then why are they, as it appears, ending the promo?

Why so agitated? I'm only suggesting people to think clearly and not take stupid risks.

Clearly, as it's plainly seen, there is NOTHING in the sentence that modifies or limits the "AT ANY TIME" part in the beginning of the sentence until the end of the sentence where it states "UNTIL 5/31/2019."

You're trying very hard to place an arbitrary time limit there, where NONE EXISTS, as you state: "any time" while the promo is going on."

As far as the Sprint promo dept. no longer being there, it's the same dept. that opens new accounts, they just answer that specific toll free line for the BYOD plan.
The dept. is located in the Philippines, it's not limited to this plan only, and it's NOT going away. It may go away AFTER the T-Mo merger but that will not take effect until after this BYOD promo is done next May.

BUT, as I said above:
"In any case, in a couple of weeks or more after this offer expires and customers attempt to add "free" lines to this BYOD plan we would know the outcome of this!"

Best to wait until then..........................
