Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I heard after 90 days they have to due to how phone accounting works? Even credit card companies, suppose you overpaid and you account statement is negative for couple months, they send you a check to settle it out. I have no experience personally, so YMMV :-(

No one knows for sure. Speculation has it at the end of the month. If you're thinking about it, do it now.

Ok guys. I can confirm that the Google Voice will work. I haven't gotten my SIM card but my account is now activated. I just have to fix the screen on the phone ($230 wtf) and I'm all set.

go on Ebay and type "Sprint LG V20" in the search box. Or "Sprint LG G5".

I don't get why you want "unlocked", you don't need to unlock a Sprint phone to use it with Sprint.

btw, I bought both of these and an LG G4 this way, they are all great phones.
Thank you for the help. The reason I thought it had to be unlocked is that the first line of the original post says "Sprint is offering 1-Year Unlimited Talk, Text & Data for Free when you bring an eligible unlocked smartphone."

This same requirement is mentioned over and over in the wiki as well. "Phone must be unlocked," "unlocked phones only," etc. My only other experience with BYOD was buying an AT&T phone on eBay to use with an AT&T MVNO, and in that case I was told I would either have to buy an AT&T phone that was already "unlocked" or buy an AT&T phone and call AT&T to have them "unlock" the phone before I could use it with the MVNO. Given the numerous mentions of the "unlocked" requirement here, I thought I was looking at the same thing.

So all the mentions of "unlocked phone" in the OP really just mean "buy the Sprint version of the phone"? That's good news for me, but it's very hard for me to understand. Thanks either way.

The terms locked and unlocked are thrown around and have different meanings.
The term Sim locked/unlocked means that the phone can only accept SIM cards from the carrier the sim slot is locked to. These can be sim unlocked by the carrier usually after a set time on the network and phone paid off Also they can sometimes be sim unlocked by third parties for a fee. It does not guarantee the phone will work on multiple carriers.
The term screen locked or activation locked means the phone cannot be accessed to the point of useless.
There is also a term called unlocked(unbranded) for phones that work on all carriers.
It is a very confusing term as it just means all bands are enabled/unlocked to have capability to work on all carriers and sim slot is unlocked. Some carrier branded phones can also work on all carriers but may or may not need modification to enable/unlock correct bands to work properly on other networks. There are also carrier branded phones that will not work on multiple carriers as they just don't have capability to enable/unlock correct bands for other carriers.
Thank you. So...what definition of "unlocked" is meant when that term is used so many times in the OP and the wiki? For example, the very first line of the OP is "Sprint is offering 1-Year Unlimited Talk, Text & Data for Free when you bring an eligible unlocked smartphone."

Will I be okay so long as I buy the Sprint version of a phone?

Locked to Sprint is fine. I think the problem arises when a Sprint postpaid LG phone has been unlocked and used on a Sprint MVNO. It then becomes ineligible until the flag thingy is switched back.
So the easiest way is to buy a used Sprint phone only used on Sprint. (Paid off of course)
Locked to Sprint is fine
Thank you. This obviously makes my life easier. Why the heck did they use the term "unlocked" so often in the OP and wiki, then? For example, the first line is "Sprint is offering 1-Year Unlimited Talk, Text & Data for Free when you bring an eligible unlocked smartphone."

I used my Sprint Note 5 to get on the plan yesterday. No issues as long as the phone has a Sim card. I'm guessing that they say unlocked so much because for a phone to work on another carrier then that same phone work on sprint, it needs to be unlocked. Sprint is trying to attract people to just move their current plan/phone without buying a new one.

hmmmmm. I'm currently a Sprint customer. If I sign up with a GV number, port my number out to Mint Mobile for 3 months, can I port my number back into the free Sprint plan as a new customer?

That means the phone you're bringing cannot be locked to another carrier, not Sprint. It's a little confusing but more or less common sense.

I'm too literal for common sense. I'd pretend to be insulted by the sly insult, but it's very accurate. Smilie

You don't port numbers between phones. You port numbers between carriers. So I assume you swapped another phone on to your Tello line to free up the G4 play.
Since tello is a sprint mvno you need to change public PLBL flag to SPCS on the G4 play to be eligible. Search thread for PLBL on how this can be done.
Ok, thanks. You are right. So my other phone is now associated with Tello/Sprint. Now my G4 has no number associated with it and I have a GV freed to port out. But it is still shows in Sprint system which said that I have not paid it off. It is completely wrong, I bought it unlocked from Amazon for the full price and never financed from Sprint, How come I have Sprint saying all that? Anyhow, how do I switch PLBL to SPCS?

Thanks, I'm in no rush for the refund, just hope it will come and that I don't have to deal with a retention team.

I think I finally found a phone. It's going to take a while to arrive. Does anyone have an eligible imei that I could borrow so that I can get signed up before this deal disappears?

We know. Any phone that has been on a Sprint MVNO gets that exact error message. "You owe money to Sprint" We have gone through this dozens of times.

It does not mean what it says literally. They use it also where a phone has been on a Sprint mvno.

Just contact LiterallyUnlimited on Reddit and he will flip the database flag phone from MVNO status to Postpaid status (PLBL to SPCS) and then it will no longer get that error.
