Hi, fellow slickdealers. I have a question. Here is my situation. I put an old Moto G4 play on the free plan. It has been couple month and it started to die. I looked at the conditions of the plan and it says that
" If the phone you bring to Sprint through the Unlimited - Bring Your Phone promotion is lost or breaks, you have options that allow you to keep your first year of free service: You can purchase a Sprint phone at full manufacturer's retail price, or Swap out a different eligible phone although a new Sprint SIM may be required"
So, I bought a new Moto x4 and appropriated a new Sprint SIM card. I called Sprint CS and after some arguments with them was able to prove that it was possible. However their "supervisor" told me that I only can do only through their tech support but I still may loose my free plan.
SO.. the question is. Has anybody done swapping a new phone in after the first one broke and didn't loose the free plan? or maybe somebody may share some wisdom how to do painlessly meaning w/out loosing that free plan? Thanks
Something doesn't sound right. Moto X4 is on the Sprint list.
We have swapped more than a dozen phones in and out of our lines using online, chat, *2, and a combination thereof.
Zero upgrade policy is for obvious reasons. They don't want to subsidize handset and service both.
Edit: Coming up on 120 day upgrade threshold for second year. Here's hoping Sprint brings back some killer phone deals. They may not but I'm an optimist!

If I understand the process right for activating for the second year, you need to use the ssn of someone not previously a sprint customer? Do you use your own name on the account as previously or do you need to use that person's name on the account? And when they run the credit check, which iirc was a hard pull, are they pulling your credit or the other person's? Thinking of trying to get another year and give that phone to one of the kids, but if it requires all their information, they don't have credit history or anything of that sort.

oh my

you need to use the ssn of someone not previously a sprint customer [in the last 45 days]

if u are using another ss number:

logic would indicate that the account would be in that persons name

logic would indicate the credit check would be against that persons ss #

Has anyone been able to get a unlocked T-mobile Galaxy S9 activated on sprint? Sprint store I went to could not add the Imei to their system. Such a bs move as the phone is unlocked and should be able to be activated on any network.

Well, seems to be common sense but since this has happened to more than 1 person, I have added this line to the wiki:

While on the phone with the T-Mobile representative, be sure to create and write down a six digit PIN and verify your account number for your T-Mobile account. You will need this information during the porting process to Sprint.
Yeah, that was key for me yesterday - easy to miss.
You might want to add that if porting from digital SIM, each Tmobile # will have its own account number. I ported 4 and had to get 4 different account info

Good News
My Boost Moto G6 Play has been unlocked. I called to have it unlocked and they went through the procedure again. I didn't tell him that I had called earlier and obviously it didn't show up as a work order but it came back saying it was unlocked and I just had to do an update on PRL. He said update profile but phone wouldn't let me do that and I had challenges on updating PRL but it finally went through and checking now shows phone able to use on any network. I submitted request for the other one that hadn't been on the service for 50 days before and I still don't think it's been on for 50 days but we will see what happens. They say that they will send an email when it's been unlocked but I never received one==so if you want your phone unlocked give it the 72 hours and then do an update of the PRL and then check to see if it's unlocked.--Don't wait for the email that never comes.
Just checking, did you make the initial request to Account Services? That is the department that is in charge of unlocks, not Support or Customer Service. The latter departments are supposed to refer all unlock requests to Account Services but I do not know if they always do so.

No the TMobile S9 model does not have the right bands even when unlocked.

The unbranded unlocked model does, but that is not what you have.

In the case of the S8, Samsung eventually released brand switching OTA to allow switching freely between brands. When they do that for the S9 also, Sprint will update the database to accept all S9 models, as they did for S8.

If you want you can contact Samsung and ask when that will be for the S9.

This is how I did it and it was posted here by someone.

Call 888-211-4727
Enter Phone number
Select Option 5
Select Option 5 again
Select Option 1

I'm not sure what department I ended up in but they verified everything and then switched me to another department. They are definitely counting the days that the phone has been on the service and it needs to be on for 50 days.

What is interesting is my phone showed unlocked after I made the call and now it's showing locked to Sprint again--so I'm not sure what is going on and at this point I haven't tried another sim card---I have to find someone home and not on their cell phone to try it and see if it works. I think Sprint is having some issues today as always. I checked my other phone that he said was not unlocked and one time it said it was locked and the other time it said it wasn't locked. So good luck trying to figure that one out and why would this one show locked at first then I updated the PRL and it said unlocked and then it came back and said locked now says unlocked then you do it again and it says locked. I have to assume it's unlocked tho.

Sorry dude, it's been talked about here since July 12. I recently had the FP deal editor modify the deal. As a matter of fact he bolded the fact that it is no longer included.

OK you were in the right place then.

It might possibly be a bug in the phone that it is not retaining the unlocked status. Or maybe it is is retaining it but just not displaying it. I think Sprint sends a file and it is supposed to be saved in the file system. Probably this has not had much testing done because Boost users would not yet be eligible to unlock this quickly. I agree it could be a Sprint bug too though.

It was not in the recent $15 a month KickStart plan so they probably got a lot of complaints from KickStart subscribers and felt compelled to drop this plan to the same level unfortunately. They also dropped the video streaming max. resolution to what it is in KickStart.

The current end of savings date is 9/30/2019, so you likely do not gain much if anything by waiting to start this plan, whether you leave the Xfinity one running or not.
