it autoinstalls the update and reboots itself with the new branding when you insert the sim of whatever carrier.
But all the apps and data will still be there, correct? I'm coming from a VZW S8+, so it should uninstall the VZW stuff and install Sprint stuff like Calling PLUS, correct? My wife has an unlocked S9+. Will that be the same experience, or would I need to flash to Sprint FW to get the Sprint goodies since they don't support carrier band switching yet?

Huh? If I just buy a T-Mobile digital SIM and new phone number to port in then how can I receive a text code?
aznshortyIf you have an existing line, in your case you won't
Actually, you can get a notification without the SIM. When porting to T-Mobile, tell them you just want to setup the account and you don't have the phone in-hand yet. Give them your email address and you'll receive emails on when the porting is in process and when it's complete. I did that. Once I received the completion email, I ported over to the Sprint deal.

I missed this. Wiki got way too long.

SPRINT SIMS CAN BE RE - USED.
IF YOU HAVE A OLD SPRINT SIM ,
THEN THERE IS NO NEED TO GET A NEW SIM.

For those who ported from T-Mobile back to Sprint, what did you do after speaking with Sprint representative. Did you wait 1-2 hours for porting to be completed in their end, insert Sprint SIM, then made a test call? Is there anyway to find when the porting is done so I don't necessarily wait longer?
I gave T-Mobile my email address and I got porting updates via email. It took about 30 minutes.

Yes it does. It leaves some VZW stuff and adds a whole bunch of Sprint stuff.

Unfortunately brand switching is not yet out for S9. Even flashing will not work because Sprint will not whitelist the phone because it knows brand switching is not out yet for S9.. I think it will be out soon. You cannot use the VZW S9 at all on Sprint until then.

I am going to be attempt getting the 2nd year of Sprint service free this next week. I have a question. How can I tell which social security number I used on my initial application one year ago? I cannot remember whether I used my wife's SS or mine. I had just retired and may have used hers since she had income.

Also, I want to purchase a used Iphone 7plus for my wife as an upgrade from her 6. Is it okay to purchase a Sprint locked phone? Will I be able to transfer it to T-Mobile and then back again to Sprint? I would hate to purchase the wrong phone.

Thanks, BLS
The website says that only the Verizon iPhone 7 Plus will work. That's better anyway because that model is compatible with ALL carriers. If you need to switch carriers in the future, the field will be wide open for you. Also, if you're only temporarily moving to T-Mobile, you just need the T-Mobile sim and the number you're porting. You don't even need a phone. You're really just porting your number over.

You are supposed to be able to.

What error do you get?

Did you let the brand switching complete and reboot when you inserted the Sprint sim. It takes a while and should not be interrupted.

Does Visual VoiceMail work?

I have switched my S8+ back and forth between several carriers.

Try this:

" Error every time I try to activate Calling Plus
I was having the same issue as you, until I went to Connections - Location - Location Method and switched from "High Accuracy" to "Battery Save" (I can only assume that the "Phone Only" option would work as well). Once I changed this setting I was able to enable Calling Plus and configure the 9-1-1 options. I then went back to the "High Accuracy" setting, once Calling Plus was configured.+

You can post in that thread or go to a large Sprint-owned Sprint store that has a repair service dept. if you cannot resolve it.

Yes it is necessary unless you take a break away from Sprint for 45 days.

The offer (as is typical of telco and cable offers) is for "new customers" only. Your SSN has to be off Sprint completely for 45 days before you can be considered a new customer again, and eligible for the offer again, if you use the same SSN.
wonderful, thanks, the number of days off Sprint is something I was looking for. repped

I guess I need to clarify a little. My wife's iPhone 6 is originally from Verizon. We switched to T-Mobile and they paid off the phone. Then we switched to Sprint for the one year free. We presently have a Sprint sim card in her iPhone 6. If I upgrade the phone from a place like Swappa, it does not come with a sim card. I will be putting the Sprint sim card in the new phone. Would I be okay purchasing either a Sprint or Verizon used phone to be used for this Sprint to T-Mobile then back to Sprint conversion.

Thank you, Brad

I am trying to use Unlocked ATT Note 8 for this. When I checked through the sprint website eligibility, it shows my phone is eligible. However I am getting NO Service upon inserting the sim. The phone is unlocked from ATT, and has both Voice and LTE bands for Sprint. Any idea, why it shows NO SERVICE.

I also tried to put the same sim in my Verizon Galaxy S8 (unlocked), but it didn't work with that either.

Brand switching a Note 8 requires that it be up to date as the capability was added by Samsung in an update.

Connect it to Samsung Smart Switch on a PC to get it up to date. Then it will brand switch to Sprint when you put in a Sprint sim.

I assume you know you cannot just insert any Sprint sim in any Sprint-compatible phone.

It has to be the part number ending in 416Q for those phones, and you have to register the phone IMEI and sim ICCID with Sprint.
