It is optional but just out of expediency, you can let her do it if you want, then cancel it later today with Billing (not with Sales).

Or if you want to you can ask for a supervisor who will straighten her out. Either way is fine - it is up to you.

As a matter of fact I would call back now and check status either way with whoever answers. Never wait for other people to call you. Otherwise she might cancel it out of spite if you let it sit there.

Then, later today after your account is complete, do Billing Chat online and check if it is on and if so and cancel it. If you do it today it will never even appear on your bill.

This will take only 1 minute. They are a different department and do not care about sales goals.

Thanks so much for the advice! She kept saying that I couldn't make changes for 3 months, etc. I'm going to call them back now. I had problems porting another number and don't know what went wrong, that number is still active. I'm really hoping to get everything straightened out.

She is lying/exaggerating about the 3 months too.

For the other number, call the porting dept directly at 866-437-1818 once the port has been entered by Sales (which I take it it already has been). Do not talk to Sales about it (or anything much else) once they have entered it initially.

I'm having problems getting my account finalized. The rep said she had to add insurance which I understand is not true, she said she can't complete activation. She told me she would call me back in 3 hours. As of now, my phones don't work. I'm like what the heck. If anyone knows what I need to to please advise. Thx in advance!
Seems to be their new thing. I had an account opened a couple of days ago and the rep was relentless, insisting that I had to take it for activation. Finally I just said fine and canceled it the next day. It's a crafty way to get an interest free loan to defer cost. They will most likely charge you the 13 and they will get to keep the money for 30 day. They will also make .44 per day until you remember to cancel it. May seem like peanuts but the numbers add up over a large customer base.

The reps want the commission or sales incentive. That is higher than the interest and is actually a cost to Sprint. That's what they care about. But yeah it comes back to management ultimately. They count on most people not cancelling the insurance.

It is best to cancel it same day so it does not appear on your bill. The sales reps tell you to wait a day so they get the commission.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but I used the same TMobile 'digital' SIM (ie. no physical SIM card) off Ebay three times in a row to port out all three lines from Sprint. The 2nd time was a month after the first and 3rd time just a couple days after the 2nd.

Just a heads up for anyone looking to save every last buck.

PS. Interesting experience today when cancelling the protection plan that was forced on me when signing up. A chat bot handled the whole thing apparently*. It understood my initial request. Managed to figure out which of the 3 lines to cancel protection from (only one line had it). Tried to pressure me to keep it, posting all of the benefits for such a low daily price. Made me confirm three times that YES I want to cancel. And it was done. Confirmation email a minute later.

*Small chance it was an actual agent just copying and pasting the preset responses... but much too fast for any actual typing.

i am not sure many wil have the answer to such unique situations...

my guess...u will be on frree plan from 7/20 to 7/31...then at current rate ($60?) from 8/1 to 8/20

i would port out now..and port back in

dont sweat the ~10-15 days at the risk of another year

just my 2c
If many have the answer, can anybody post? My BYOD was supposed to expire 7/31 and it still shows today but I'm afraid Sprint may start charging $60/mo. $40/mo. etc...

Usually sprint doesn't pro rate last month even when porting out. Did your bill for the current cycle show up and was it still free + tax or was there partial(8-1 to 8-25) paid plan charges on it. I haven't seen any posts about having paid plan charges yet. So maybe as long as your bill cycle started before free plan expiration(7/31) then rest of bill cycle is free.

Are you sure? You said "Usually" lol. Can anyone here confirm?

Absolutely.
Why don't you port them both out right now.
Did they say it would otherwise be charged for the period to end of billing cycle?
The reason not to port them out is to save $ until the end of the bill cycle, if that is how long the promo lasts and Sprint does not prorate plan changes. A Sprint rep told me I will get BYOD free until the billing cycle end, but it would be nice to know from any other SD'ers that this is true because the cell phone industry is filled with unscrupulous people. And if it is not true, I am looking at $130/mo. + tax and fees instead of free + $9 fees starting today. That's a big difference!!!

Pretty sure today will start the $60 billing. A chat rep should be able to confirm. Then it's in writing. They can't lie

I just added the insurance & everything went through without any problems. Thanks for the phone # to cancel!

I'm having problems porting another number over though it's still active & working with Sprint but I completed the porting process yesterday. T-Mobile automated line says the phone number is active with them. I'm waiting on a call back from T-mo, really need to get that other line cancelled 😰

Apologies if this question has been answered already on this thread.

I am a current AT&T customer, but my contract does not end for a couple months. I am looking to signup for the free Sprint service now by porting a Google Voice #. After my contract with AT&T is up I would like to port over my AT&T # to the Sprint account. I was told by the Sprint sales rep that porting/changing to a new phone number would cancel the free year of service Is this accurate or is this another case of Sprint sales reps spreading false information? Thanks!

while its always a good idea to get things in writing...often times if mis information is given, the next rep will simply apologize for mistake and move on..

none the less, yes get in writing..but be prepared if the information is still wrong..

we all want to save $$$..but bigger picture is/was..port out immediately..get back in for another 1 year...

the 10-15 days of uncertainty and potentially saving a few $ is simply not worth it
