Apologies if this question has already been answered on this thread.

I am a current AT&T customer and my contract does not end for another couple months. I am looking to sign up for the Sprint free unlimited promotion now by porting over a Google Voice #. I would then like to change/port over my AT&T number to Sprint at the completion of my AT&T contract. I was told by the Sprint sales rep that porting over a new number later would end the promotion on the account. Is this accurate or another case of a Sprint sales rep spreading false information. Thanks!
It is not totally trivial but you can do it later. Some people have done it successfully. One person messed it up. There are a couple of ways. It is not worth going into the details now. Ask at the time. Mainly remember never ask Sales to do anything like that. Do it with tech. support when the time comes.

I just added the insurance & everything went through without any problems. Thanks for the phone # to cancel!

I'm having problems porting another number over though it's still active & working with Sprint but I completed the porting process yesterday. T-Mobile automated line says the phone number is active with them. I'm waiting on a call back from T-mo, really need to get that other line cancelled 😰
To cancel the insurance, I suggest Billing Chat online but you can also call any general support number (not TeleSales) or do it yourself online.

Yes, I had to call in and get it fixed. Took the tech over 30 minutes to change it on the account...

Be careful if you use the your new sprint number to call TMo. They almost ported my sprint number I called them on. I hope the request was truly cancelled.

I have been following this tread for a while but today(Aug 1) I did sign up for this plan. Over last year, I was using Virgin mobile 1 year free plan and it was expiring at the end on this month. Followed the procedure as mentioned in this thread and everything went smooth. A few details that might be useful to others.

1) The Sprint page only lists AT&T and Verizon. I was worried that Tmobile might not work - but it did. BTW i followed the procedure of buying a digital sim from ebay and ported from Virgin to tmobile (called them - not online). Did not add any money to my prepaid account.

2) I was also worried that they might deny a prepaid account but they did not.

3) I did not buy sprint sim(that saved me about $15). I just reused the Virgin mobile sim.

4) I did everything by phone by calling the numbers listed in this thread.

5) The Sprint representative did confirm that $30 activation fee is waived and pushed hard for the phone insurance - but I kept saying no. Finally I said that I already have a square-trade warranty on it before the operator relented !!

6) I still need to now go online and signup for my account to setup auto-pay. Will do that later. Phone seems to be working fine.

This one short code was always sent from 5-6 digit number but after they "updated" some crap, I get from a phone number. There's one 6 digit number which I still can't receive crap, one of those public transportation tracker.

The rep I talked to also said that the higher charges wouldn't kick in until my next billing period. I'm currently on a billing period that ends on August 13th, and my agreement was up on July 31. Also, my online account shows that my next bill for August 14th will be the usual taxes and fees, not the increased charges. So, this seems to verify what the rep said. However, we all know things can change, so there is a risk still.

Ugh. So, my number seems to be in limbo now. I was unsuccessful in porting out to T-Mobile, so I started exploring other options. I decided to suck it up and pay the $20 to port in to Google Voice. During that process, I found out that I haven't been able to receive calls to the Sprint number in question, at least for 2 days now. Sprint technical support is looking at it, and while I'm waiting, I just decided to give T-Mobile a call and talk to them about escalating the port-in issue. The automated system just told me that my number is already associated with a t-mobile account. I'm on hold with them now to verify. Hopefully it's just screwed up somehow and not actually hacked. If so, I probably deserve it, seeing as how I just posted my mobile number here and had to edit it out. ha.

Sorry if this has been asked, but my sprint acct says only: unlimited bring your own phone, nothing about it being free for a year.

Is this what it should say & should I be worried I'm on the wrong plan?

I think you know but there is a criminal scam involving porting numbers away from the true owner in order to then access the person's bank accounts by intercepting authentication sms's.

Certainly this is rare and most likely NOT the case here, but I just wanted to be sure you are aware. Some variant happened to one poster here.

It is also possible that carriers may cover this up in some cases though I hope not.

I have posted that I would not port an important number via a TMobile sim sold by an unknown third party seller, and probably not through TMobile at all.

The name varies slightly depending on when you signed up.

But there should be a lot more details there in either the free account or for that matter in a paid account.

You need to drill down further in the menus.

Which type of rep? If you want to be sure, chat with a Billing rep. or probably surest talk to an Account Services (aka Cancellations/Retentions) rep. This is NOT the same thing as a Customer Service rep. Avoid relying on anything TeleSales reps say above all else.

I would check first with Billing Chat and then call Account Services (Cancellations/Retentions) to double check.

If anyone is looking for an alternative to T-Mobile's digital sim card, I just ordered this: http://r.ebay.com/D8ZFxv

I have ported out Tracfone before and it was simple and easy.

My sim card is supposed to come in on Thursday so I'll update soon.
So can you park the number on Net10 (TracFone??) without paying for service?
