the promo link in the op now links to sprint promotion page saying for ATT and Verizon.

Doesn't it mean the free 1-year now only apply for porting from ATT and Verizon?
NO a zillion people are porting from TMo. It just means they are not a MARKETING TARGET in view of future merger plans and roaming plans..

If your phones have been unlocked by Boost, you can temporarily port to T-Mobile and then port to Sprint. Details in the wiki.

The number cannot come from Boost so you would have to port it out to TMO, then in to Sprint a day later or an hour later, does not matter.

The phone is a separate issue. Was it sold to you subsidized by Boost? Is there a lock on it? If so you will have to satisfy Boost's requirements. If you BYOD'd it in to Boost already paid for, this should not apply. Call Boost and ask if they would release it unlocked for use on Sprint postpaid.

Yeah its a boost mobile s8 (does that qualify?) Whats the "special edition" s8 listed on the main post. If it does, then the process is:

1. Call boost ask them to unlock phone (i have owned them both over 1year should be good)
2. Buy $3 non physical t mobile thing, then (not sure how) port to t mobile. (Do i have to pay for service or how does that work?)
3. Call sprint and say i want to port from t mobile to sprint and hope it works.

Is that correct?

1 more question, will there be downtime for my number when going in between carriers? If so, how long?

Do I ever need to take boost sim out, or reflash the phone?

Also, when does this promotion end, how much time do I have left. That isnt clear on the main post, as I remember this deal was from last year. I see up until end of july this year. We are in august. When does the promo end?

Thanks for all your help!

Special edition is something completely different - that is the unbranded model sold directly by Samsung.

This one is the Sprint model, not the unbranded model. You do not need a new sim and you would not need to flash it.

This phone will be ok provided Boost first releases it for use on Sprint postpaid. Ask Boost if they will do that to be sure. Sprint might reject it initially but there are ways around that (try multiple reps, worst case swap it on). But these ways will NOT work if Boost has not release ALL locks.

I do not see any rush right now but one never knows. Sprint is NEVER EVER going to announce a real cutoff date until it is all but over. If they did they would have announced one 10 times already. It would be cutting their own throats from a marketing perspective to do so. Probably it is all tied up with merger strategy issues that are top-secret even within Sprint.

There can be downtime if you mess it up or fail to check with Boost ahead of time if they will unlock AND clear it for postpaid. Otherwise, no downtime of more than an hour or two.

Porting issues are trivial and inconsequential. It is the unlock and Sprint acceptance issues that presents the only uncertainty until verified.

If your phone was on Boost, and it is now unlocked, it SHOULD work on Sprint.

If you purchase a TMO "digital sim" through the eBay link in the wiki, there will be instructions on how to port your number to TMO. You don't have to do anything with your phone. You're just porting your number to TMO. You tell them you're just porting your number to TMO's pay-as-you-go plan, but don't want to load any credit on it yet and you don't have your phone in-hand yet. This process should be free. (I didn't pay for any of the four lines I ported,) Just be sure to create and write down a PIN number with TMO. Your account number will be your ten digit phone number you ported to them with a "1" added before the area code. You will need this info to port from TMO to Sprint. I gave TMO my email address and got an email when the port was complete, but some have said they were not given that option.

Once the port is complete (usually within an hour or so, but it could take 24), call the Sprint telesales number in the wiki. You can use the same Boost sim card for your phone.

There is no set date when the promo will end. It may extend, it may not. It could end at any time so you need to move fairly quickly.

If all goes well, you'll be without service for about 2 hours.

Try to do this in the middle of the day because the TMO porting department is only open during regular business hours. Porting too late in the day could delay the porting process until the next day.

Wow, thanks. We are so unbelievably blessed to have someone like you here at Slickdeals. In fact, I may faint due to the largess of your knowledge. I don't know how SD has survived since it's inception without you here to guide us. May I suggest you read the wiki about know-it-all asshat trolls. It should be quite easy to find, as your user name is used throughout. I'm sure you'll find it quite reflective. Peace
