I have had this offer for the last 1 year and it expires in September. Wiki does provide info on renewing for another year.

The Sprint offer now explicitly states that the offer is valid if bringing the phone from Verizon or AT&T. There is no mention of T-Mobile. I am not sure if this is because of their impending merger.

For renewal, the Wiki refers going back to T-Mobile. My question is, would the FREE offer be valid if bringing the phone from T-Mobile even though there is no mention of it? Has anyone tried this method (as in Wiki) recently? Please share your experiences.

Yes. It is still valid coming from T-Mobile. They are marketing to Verizon and AT&T, but you can still come from any non-Sprint carrier.

I had quite the experience trying to activate the Moto G6 Play I purchased from Boost Mobile today. Thrice I called Sprint at the 866-782-8777 number.
  1. I called first and they took my social security number, DOB, and other personal information, and set up my Sprint account. However, when they asked for the phone, I made the mistake of acknowledging that it was Prepaid. Also, I tried the tactic of having them port the number first and then linking the device later, but the rep wouldn't do it.
  2. After reviewing this thread (again), I knew I shouldn't mention Boost, but I realized my mistake in mentioning Prepaid. So, I called again, and the rep located the account Sprint had already created for me, and asked me for the IMEI (MEID) of the phone to port. I gave the hexadecimal MEID without mentioning that I had a Prepaid phone, but she denied the activation because she claimed that the IMEI was for a Prepaid phone.
  3. I was wearing down, but since I was trying to get this phone working for my wife, I decided to try one last time. I started the account setup over again, and though the rep located my previous account, he created a new one anyway. I dodged questions about where I purchased the SIM, just acknowledging that I had one, and then provided the decimal MEID to see if that made any difference. This rep also told me that I had a prepaid phone and that he couldn't activate it. I pressed back about what "Bring Your Own Device" meant, and after he told me that the system wouldn't let him activate it, I asked him if his computer was actually blocking him from activating the device. Eventually, with enough badgering, he told me that he would see what he could do, and after a brief hold, he told me he could activate the device via some workaround. So, we walked through the activation process.
I still don't know if everything went correctly, since my number hasn't ported yet. But, this did not quite follow the two-step Boost Moto G6 procedure others seemed to have enjoyed.

Thank you!!! Excellent treat!

I port my old google voice number to sprint! For a 1 year free!

After 48 hours google finally unlocked.

Everything seems to work fine on the sprint network compared to T-Mobile except for 1 thing "you can't surf the web and been on a call" as soon as your phone have a call your LTE letters willl disappears from the screen and will bi replace for an "x1".

The pro of sprint is faster DOWNLOADS speed (25/36/55 mbps)

The cons is the super slow upload speed (1 mbps or less)

I will use it and see how it goes on my first bill since 10 years ago their department of billing was a mess and they charge you for everything even for ghost things.

Good luck

We took the promotion 6 months ago, there are some area while the LTE data is lacking. But for the most part it's okay, it covers calls and data needed in San Francisco.

We used sprint global roaming to Europe early this month, pay $25 a week to boost the full LTE data. It was awesome, best deal ever. You got your unlimited roaming data with LTE speed for one week, including hot spot sharing!
The $25 pass do for $200mb if lte only not unlimited. Better off with a local sim.

Very impressive recovery!

I think they probably annotated your account the first time and that is why you also had a hard time on the subsequent calls.

I think that's also why the guy created the second account - to get free of the annotation on your first account. Once your account was noted as trying to use a Prepaid phone, they are scared of activating it and appearing to ignore the prior note.

At least, I hope that's all it was and that everyone doesn't start running into the same problem.

It is fascinating that they have workarounds for their own procedures. So in reality, they understand exactly the game that is being played here and are used to breaking the rules a lot themselves when they want to do so ("a Sale is a Sale is a Commission"). and they recognize you are game for breaking the rules too.

I did a swap today on my account with a new purchased boost Moto g6. Took 10 min with chat online. I used the provided sim and when asked for the meid. The rep wanted the one that said DEC after it not HEX. Went smoothly. I don't know if that helps anyone or not. On the box it had to meid's. And the iccid was on the box too. The chat rep asked no questions about the phone really. They also confirmed it wouldn't change my plan. And after looking at my account it dose not look like it did.

Can I use a sprint phone for activation? Currently I don't have a sprint phone. Was thinking to buy a sprint locked phone to open the free line.

Yes, but there are problems:

(1) Older Boost and other Prepaid models are problematic. So look for a postpaid-origin phone in general. This does not go by model number but by the history of that particular phone.

(2) Phones that have been on MVNO's are stuck in that status until you get them pushed back to postpaid. (search LiterallyUnlimited in this thread)

(3) Many reps seem to have guidelines not to activate older Sprints phones as the first phone on an account. There are ways around this, including trying again or "swapping it on."

It is all so complex I am starting to wonder if we should just say "Not readily" to this question.

I hope no one here has to go through this:

I could well relate to the pains/hassle and frustration of calling any customer care number multiple times.

It is just a shortcut expression.

The idea is that you get the other person to open the account in their name and SSN to share with you for this purpose, which is perfectly legal..

You could not open it for them because you would not have all the details and would not be able to pass the identity questions.
This isn't accurate. I did this tonight using the instructions from the Wiki going from a T-Mobile "digital SIM" I ordered on eBay, using my brother's SSN. I gave them all of MY info and only my brother's SSN. He wasn't even present.

They even transferred me to another department regarding the credit check because my brother's credit kind of sucks. So I was on a conference call with the Indian and an American representatives while the latter "verified" my info. Again, I gave her MY info and made no mention of my brother. She approved me with a $150 monthly limit and seeing as how this was more than enough for one line with an unlimited plan, the first representative finished setting the account up.

If anyone gets poor reception with Sprint, enable WiFi calling (this also lets you send/receive texts over WiFi. However, not MMS). It's free. A lot of people don't even know this exists. I only found out about it when I switched to Sprint last year because the service was so bad in my neighborhood.

I had trouble figuring it out last year, so it could take some troubleshooting, but once you get it enabled, anywhere you have a WiFi connection, calls and texts function seamlessly (except pics/GIFs).

On my iPhone, the settings were found in "Cellular." Last year, I recall having to get a Sprint rep to add WiFi calling to my account but this time I was able to do it myself.

Tried signing up online but the process insisted on buying a SIM card for $13.81. Used Live Chat, the rep said this is required for the BYOD promotion. I canceled out of the process after IMEI and credit check.
I already have a Sprint SIM card. Can I sign up via phone and use it instead?

As per WIKI...wonder if this is still valid???
If you already have a SIM (generally all old Sprint phones come with one) you can call the promo number @ 866-782-8777 directly to sign up and activate service without ordering online

You honestly should of ordered the sim online. The sim you order will be linked to the free year promo when you go online to active the sim and unlocked phone. They're going to pull your credit again if you call them.

I don't care if they pull my credit twice or 20 times. Will try to call, if they insist on a new sim card for $14 (ripoff) I think I will pass on the whole deal
