Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I think I understand why Sprint is dying a public death.

I finally set aside some time this fine Sunday afternoon to make the leap from VZW that we've had for years. 37,602 posts to this thread and most of which are current Sprint BYOD customers looking for ways to screw over Sprint and re-up for the same promo again before it ends. Not me. I'm literally the customer(s) that Sprint is trying to win from their competition. We have two Pixel 3's that are paid for and unlocked so it should be a slam dunk transaction, right? Nope.

I start out by assembling all of the info in the first of this thread so that I'm adequately prepared to make the call. I dial the # listed specifically to call and ask the person who answered the phone (she called herself "Jen", it was clearly a stage name has her English was rough at best) about the promotion and if they can help me. "No problem" she mumbles as if holding back a mouth full of marbles. I think she invented a couple of sounds I've never heard made in the English language before.

She asks who we're currently with to which I reply Verizon. She starts out by getting my name (which she then proceeds to butcher every single time she tried to mention it) and call back number in case we get disconnected. She quickly informs me that she'll need to send a text message to my Sprint number for my protection. After a moment of her struggling to find my non-existent Sprint account to send a confirmation text she realizes her blunder and once again asks me who my current provider is to which I remind her that it is still Verizon & has been for the entire three minutes since the last time she asked me. She then asks me for my Sprint SIM card number to which I reply that this is my first contact with Sprint so we have no SIM card number to give her. It then takes her no less than 20 min to tell me that my Google Pixel 3 devices aren't compatible with Sprint. This is after me telling her numerous times that it is absolutely a compatible device and they're not locked to anything as they've never been locked to a provider. We bought them directly from Google unlocked and are on VZW who doesn't lock devices.

She proceeds to tell me that her techs all tell her that this isn't the case and she'd gladly sell me some clapped out used POS for $250usd. I tell her I'm not interested in Sprint if they can't use my existing equipment. She then informs me that she can run my credit while we work out the details of the equipment. Dafuq?! I thought she was joking at first but then she offered it again a few minutes later as if I was just dying to get a credit hit from a company that seemingly can't service me beyond lowering my credit score.

The cherry on the cake was when I informed "Jen" that this phone was made by Google specifically for their own Google Fi solution which was a reseller of Sprint's service. So how the HELL can they do that if the device isn't even compatible with Sprint's network.

FoH!

She then told me that she would forward me to a level 3 technician who could help me and it ended up being a nice lady with Asurion insurance services.... not even a Sprint employee. We shared a laugh about how inept the rest of the world is at the most basic of tasks and then went on with our lives.

I know this goes against the Wiki, but when I moved from VZW, I simply did everything online at the Sprint website. I paid the $13 or whatever for them to ship a SIM, but then I didn't have to talk to anyone, and the entire process was smooth as silk.

You have to call them to transfer subsequent lines, but the process is significantly easier and quicker when you already have an account and the proper plan.

But online activation would cost you activation fee of $30.. did you get hit with that?

Anyone activate a flip phone with this deal? I just ordered a sprint one from eBay, only type of phone my father in-law will use lol.

Edit...I think sprint only uses SIM cards for smart phones, hopefully they can activate with dec number from the phone

People have been SO adamant about calling that 866 # that I didn't even consider the online option. If I'm doing 2 lines is it $10 shipping per card or is it $2.99+$10 each making it $26 just for two SIM cards?

Also, don't you pay the exorbitant $34.99 or whatever it is per line activation if you do it online? That is another $70ish of fees I could avoid if they could hire English speaking employees with at least a room temperature IQ.

Funny, most companies incentivize customers to utilize their online services since it negates on more representative that they have to pay a salary to. Not Sprint! Punish the self sufficient customers!

No wonder this company is a flaming dumpster fire hurtling out of control towards extinction.

Just login to your account and go to Change Services under "MY Sprint". Click your new line and if there are any services, it will show up. Mine shows "Sprint Complete" plan and I am not able to remove it as it errors out in the last page where it asks to confirm. Called Sprint, asked them to remove it, they transferred me to their Insurance dept. who would try to sell other plans. Politely ask to remove it which they will but will not give any confirmation no., however they asked me to check back after 2 days and it should not be in the account.
Hope this helps.
P.S. Mine still comes up even after the agent mentioned it has been removed
Thanks much and repped.

Fixed it for you. That's where she's from. You stayed on the phone WAY too long unless you already gave them your SS#. Yes it is a train wreck calling in (took me an hour with about 30 minutes on hold), but yours was never going to happen. A quick hang up and call back probably would have resulted in a better and more experienced CSR.

This isn't just Sprint. Call back or do online.

PS. If you're coming from Verizon and travel much, you'll be shocked at how much you actually lose a signal with Sprint when traveling. That 1% claim surely doesn't count outside city limits.

Well the person was incompetent but the place to sort it out is here anyway, not with clueless sales reps.

Actually the explanation given is correct. Google did not give the IMEI's to Sprint (they were "Verizon exclusives"). That is a Google/Verizon gambit to limit competition by making it hard to move them.

But they can be added.

Try running them in the Ting checker https://ting.com/byod/

That should hopefully add them to the Sprint database and then you may be fine.

Check afterward at
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/br...hop:030918

to see.

There are other ways of adding them if not.

There is only one shipping fee, so it would be $15.99 for two SIM cards. Our family did the exact same thing as you--porting two numbers out from VZW. No, there is no activation fee if you do it online. If you check my post above, their website confirms that as well. We had our two numbers on Sprint for less than $20.

As long your devices pass their IMEI checker, [sprint.com] you should be good.

Yeah but it goes on to say it will be charged and then credited within 2 billing cycles later if you activate online. Sometimes the crediting part falls through.

There are also mixups all the time where they ship the sim cards and then lose the details, or person calls the wrong number when sims arrive and gets wrong plan, etc.

I guess all I can say is that I was never charged an activation fee for either line. My first bill was $3.37. My second was $6.74 where it has been since then.

We travel a fair bit & I'm no stranger to crappy cellular service. That's why we're on VZW. We've had them all over the years & Sprint was far & away the worst everywhere save for parts of the Eastern seaboard & areas of Florida. Even then I wouldn't say it's better than any other provider. It's barely as good coverage-wise but slower speeds & constant drops. I was tempted by saving around $1,500 over the year on two lines but it's just not worth it & this is the reminder/sign we needed. I think I'll just save money elsewhere & continue having the best Nationwide coverage at a fair rate.

True. Maybe I just got lucky or something? In any event, I'm happy.

PS. If you're coming from Verizon and travel much, you'll be shocked at how much you actually lose a signal with Sprint when traveling. That 1% claim surely doesn't count outside city limits.
So much truth to this. Wife and I were shocked when we moved from VZW. I knew it would be worse, but I figured it would be close. I was very wrong.

We have learned to live with it, but that 1% claim is a joke. I think I remember reading that it's based on a binary "signal/no signal" determination. There are lots of places that have some form of signal on Sprint (maybe 1 or 2 bars of 3G) but that just fail to load data while VZW pulls in 5 bars of 4G and has no issue. Of course, they both count as "signal" on whatever BS map Sprint pulled together for their 1% claim.
