was offered 5 lines for $100 til 9/30/20. Took that offer.
I don't get it. Isn't 5 lines for $100 [sprint.com] the standard offer for any shmoe off the street? You could have gotten that without involving retentions or recovery.

Nope. New lines only technically.

Sprint has got to have the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. I chatted with their customer service last week to schedule a cancellation, which they messed up by making the date 7/21 instead of 7/31. After getting that corrected on the 20th, I pulled up my new bill today to find that they switched me to unlimited basic on 7/21 because I supposedly called and requested it on 7/20. Except I never called them (until today I had only chatted), and I certainly didn't ask them to switch me to an expensive plan before my free plan ends on 7/31. So a rep made this up??? I can't believe how absurd this is.

The rep I spoke to today told me there was nothing she could do, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, she made a number of excuses from 'they're busy' to 'they will tell you the same thing I'm telling you.' After 35 minutes, she finally let me speak to a supervisor who promised she would check into it and call me back. They're going to go over the nonexistent phone conversation to make sure I didn't actually agree to the switch. I still can't believe they would make stuff up like this! I was going to try to port back in to kickstart, but now I just want to get as far away from sprint as possible.

And my bill for 2 lines was $115! I know people have said on here that they bill in advance for the next, but they assured me today that they do not, that the payment I made on 7/15 covered only to 7/21. So now I owe them $115 starting 7/21 even though my free plan was supposed to last until 7/31.

That is terrible.

Now I have never recommended Chatting to cancel in my steps at https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device-sim-req?p=128482822#post128482822. Officially speaking you are supposed to do it with Retentions at 844-382-3317

I think Chat is based entirely in overseas Call centers whereas Retentions is mostly US based.

But of course they should send you to the right department when you contact the wrong one. They used to refuse to do Cancels via any other means than Retentions,

Thank goodness they do at least record all calls as you say.

I just finished porting to Red Pocket: do I need to do anything to cancel the service from Sprint?

In case they call to give me some deal, hoping for another free year, which number they will call: Red Pocket or an alternative number on file?

(1) No
(2) People have said they call either one / both.

I have never bothered doing that. You do not need to. They stop charging automatically.

You can monitor your account online and it should show the cancel within a few days.

Good!

For free parking of phone numbers, there is nothing.

I would check with a rep for exact billing date questions.
I don't use that line anymore so maybe best to cancel it or delete it from my account. Is there an easy way to do that online before kickstarter plan starts to avoid charges? I can't find the tab for it?

No, the only way to kill it very quickly is to port out the number. You can port it to Sideline and let it die there for free, but they are probably slow, so if you are you are close to a deadline you might have to use some other carrier.

Of course you can call Retentions at 844-382-3317 to cancel it at end of billing cycle if there is enough time for that but they are not going to be as fast at porting out.

That says it's eligible.

I called RP again and they said Sprint isn't allowing the # to be ported (3rd time they've tried).
Called Sprint again and they say there have been no port requests made. RP says how can that be if they get a message back that the phone # is ineligible.

Called RP again and he requested that I 3-way call Sprint with them on the line so they can get the SPID. The RP guy actually stayed on the line as we were on hold with Sprint for around 40 minutes and got forwarded to multiple departments. One dept says I need to speak to another, and that one says I need to speak to the first one. Sprint is absolutely clueless! Many there don't know who handles port-out, and the porting dept doesn't know what SPID meant that the RP guy was asking for, and says it's not needed. So after a few hours on the phone now, still no progress. I've spoken to each of them several times and they each say I need to call the other company.

The RP guy mentioned that when they submit the port, the ID shows up as Tmobile. When I first got the Sprint account, I ported in from T-mobile, like many did, although I never actually used the T-mobile account. It was just a cheap $4-$5 temp account to get the Sprint BOYD promo. I'm not sure how it all works but maybe if it has a TM SPID, the port request is actually going to Tmobile. I did call TMO but they claim there's nothing they can do.

Has anyone else had this problem?
It is good that you have figured out the problem - Red Pocket is requesting the port-in from the wrong carrier (TMobile) so naturally they are being told the number is inactive.

I would suggest, check some carrier lookup sites and see what carrier the number shows as being on.(e.g https://freecarrierlookup.com/ ).

Then call Red Pocket back and ask them to override the default routing suggested by their system on the port request and manually route it to Sprint explicitly. Ask the person if he knows how to do that, and if the answer is no, ask him to escalate the issue within Red Pocket. Do not agree to call Sprint or to do anything yourself- that has nothing to do with the issue. Odds are that you are just dealing with low-level customer service personnel who do not understand the problem, and that higher level staff will have no trouble solving it instantly. Most likely it has come up often.

If they will not do so, if you are not in a big rush you could port it somewhere else first (Sideline is free for up to a week but slow, or https://www.anveo.com/service.asp ) and then from there to Red Pocket.

I think it is somewhat understandable that Sprint would have trouble helping you with this, because, as you know, the process is that you deal with the carrier you are porting to, not the carrier you are porting from. The process from then on is supposed to be directly between the two carriers, not involving you at all. So they have no way to involve you in it.

Time for a sad story that perhaps someone can learn from and avoid my mistakes.

I called up Sprint a few days ago and tried to set up a future cancellation date of July 26th. The CSR seemed to think that wasn't possible so I hung up and tried again. The second rep said they would do it and that they would call me on the 26th to confirm that I still wanted to cancel. I waited a couple days and then called the number from the landing page to try and get my lines switched to Kickstart. They told me that they don't have any record of my account being on a cancellation list. Hmm okay that's weird. Maybe that second CSR didn't put in the cancellation right, I thought. Either way, I was going to get a phone call prior to cancellation and I could tell the Sprint rep that I had decided not to cancel (and after that call I would then port out and then back in to Sprint to get the kickstart plan).

So today arrives and I don't get a call in the morning from Sprint and then all of a sudden all 5 of my lines were cancelled abruptly around noon. This means I lose my phone numbers! Mad

Thinking back, I should have realized something went wrong and rushed to port out my numbers right after the call where they said they didn't see the future cancellation on my account. My advice is don't be like me, when something goes wrong with the steps, don't delay and look into porting out the numbers as soon as possible.

I know there isn't much hope, if any, but as anyone here ever gotten there old numbers back after an account cancellation with the numbers still active? If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to give it a try.

I highly doubt they are lost yet. Try calling Recovery at the number shown at https://www.sprint.com/en/landing...print.html and ask them if they can recover them and put them on KickStart.

Unfortunately we just missed closing time for today but tomorrow should be ok too.

I would suggest call them and not some other department. They have incentive to get them back. Other departments do not, and moreover have no place to put them if they do get them back..

A suggestion I have for other people is never accept any arrangement which involves someone else calling you back. It creates too much ambiguity when they fail to do so. Also any sort of conditional cancellation will not work to qualify for Recovery offers, regardless of what Retentions suggests.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It almost happened to me too. I scheduled a cancellation for 7/31, but they scheduled it for 7/21 instead without telling me. That's the end of my billing cycle. Fortunately, I checked back with them and found out before I lost my numbers, but then they switched my plan to the unlimited plan on 7/21 - I have no idea why - before the end of my free plan on 7/31. They said I agreed to it. I most certainly did not. I just found out yesterday when I saw my bill online.

I tried to cancel the cancellation that was rescheduled for 7/31, but now they tell me I don't have a cancellation scheduled for 7/31, and I'm afraid they're lying to me again. They really have the worst customer service!

If you just want out at this point the best method is to take control from them and port out. If there is ongoing confusion about cancellation dates that will resolve it unilaterally and definitively. Then you can settle the billing details later. You will end up owing nothing because you can always insist they listen to the recordings.
