Problems with the car Gas Tank?

"Problems with the Gas Tank

One potential problem with the gas tank is while filling up, the pump shuts off every 10 seconds or so. If your gas tank is not full, and this is happening, there might be a problem with the on-board vapor recovery system. While the gas tank is being filled, the gas is vented through a carbon canister to capture fuel vapors. If this system is not working properly, the pump will turn itself off. In addition, gas tanks should be inspected by a mechanic regularly to check for rust, leaks, corrosion, and damaged seams.

The gas tank of your vehicle holds the fuel that makes your car run. There are different types of fuel so it is important to know which type your vehicle takes to have the optimal performance. If you suspect problems with your gas tank, consult the professionals at YourMechanic and have them inspect your gas tank for leaks and other issues."

Has the tank been "topped off" on a regular basis, as in had more gas pumped in after it says it's full to get to a round number on the price?

Or has it gotten the cheapest no-name 85-87 octane you could find? Budget gas comes from tanks that don't get cleaned/filtered well enough, and plenty of crud floats into your gas tank.

It's not good. I had to replace the charcoal canister on my GF's old car because of it, fortunately it was cheap at the junkyard and pretty easy to replace.

"not good" as in "may somewhat reduce the life expectancy of a user-replaceable inexpensive part" or "not good" as in "your gas tank will eventually explode at the worst possible time," or something in between?

I mean, I'm not dumping half a gallon on the ground because the pump went to $15.01 but I'm also not above pulling the trigger a couple extra times to bump it to an even number Dontknow

Probably something in between. Prices and ease of replacement of the canister varies greatly, and I don't know what other potential issues would arise.

i would google that with your specific make and model. the 350z had a filler neck problem causing what you describe. I just dealt with it. But allegedly turning the key forward and having the fuel pump prime would allow you to keep filling (obviously stop pumping, then turn the key back before continuing).
