Worth $500 more for brighter screen and better colors? $989 vs $1500 is a huge price difference. For $100, maybe, but $500? Come on

"Samsung UN65MU7000. Not a very good TV, has a wide color gamut but is pretty dim even compared to the competing Sony X850E"

If you check the review they have a recommended if under price which is $900, that's why I posted the link to the review. And if your comparing a tv for a review you wouldn't go based on the sale price you compare the full price model and based on a quick google search there is a $100 difference.

Very tempting. Worried dark viewing is bad though...

Sorry just seemed like you were thread crapping. I too read the reviews for both TVs but I didn't find a 65" Sony X850E for $100 difference. Sure when comparing reviews on rtings.com you compare by full price, but when buying a TV, you're not going to spend $500 more just because of a few differences. You're either going to: buy the Samsung or wait for the Sony to go on sale. For $1500, you can skip the Sony and get an even better tv, I think something like the MU8000 is rated higher and is $1500.

Based on the review in rtings.com it doesn't appear to be that great of a deal.

What am I missing that makes this a FP deal?

If I replace a 1080 P Panasonic plasma of the same size that I am having Glare issues with this TV, will I be disappointed? Room is very bright.
