Specs say "Up to 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7500U Processor (2.70GHz 4MB)". What does that mean... "Up to..."??
Could the hard drive be swapped out for a SSD?
Could the RAM be upgraded?
How would I find those answers for myself in the future?
You could answer most of the questions by just looking at the tech specs on that page and relying on general PC knowledge and experience. If your PC knowledge is weak the manual is a great resource. All of the questions could be answered by reading the laptop's manual.
Most manufacturers have different sub-models with different configurations. The manual confirms that by saying that depending on the exact model the laptop can come with different CPUs. Since they at one point offered different configurations with different CPUs they would say "up to" in the CPU specs.
Basically, all hard drives can be replaced so replacing it with an SSD wasn't even in doubt. However, by checking the tech specs under the storage section we see one of the options being "1TB 5400 RPM + 512GB PCIe SSD". This indicated that it can have the hard drive on SATA and the SSD on PCIe allowing for both at the same time. In checking the manual it confirms this.
Most laptops do not solder the RAM so there is typically at least one RAM slot for you to change the RAM. The tech specs said that it could have up to 16GB RAM, but I had to check the manual to see how many RAM slots there were. It was from the manual that I found out it only had one slot meaning you would have to replace the existing 8GB RAM with a 16GB one instead of just adding another module.

Great response and I agree with everything, but FYI, I have noticed a few of the deals lately having non-upgradeable RAM (like the really old days).
Also, someone I work with told me about a PC (or tablet) that had the hard drive connected without the SATA interface. Some of the external drive manufacturers have been doing that with external drives to save a few bucks.
Extra $60 off $300 if paying with AMEX Blue(not sure if with all AMEX cards) as a statement credit. Scroll down to "Amex offers & Benefits". Find Lenovo and click on "Add Offer".

could you describe how you were able to find the offer a bit more? i cant seem to find it. Thank you.

I hope this is not a trend.
