For iOS devices, I use an app called Battery Life[apple.com]. I don't know if Android has an equivalent however.

Noticed the Walmart BF ads has the Straight Talk S7 for $300 new. Is that worth the wait and extra $100 for a new device vs pre-owned? Plus any cost/time to unlock and get up on T-mobile.
Does Straight Talk require a subscription period? 18 months for Boost seems quite a bit..
Only if you planned to use it on Straight Talk, the new one from Walmart would be the better deal. Straight Talk model can't be unlocked until after 12 months of being on their service (unlock policy[tfwunlockpolicy.com]) and they are locked down pretty hard. No workarounds like eBay unlockers for Straight Talk phones, so it's either Straight Talk for 12 months or use it as a WiFi device only.
The Boost Mobile one can (supposedly) be remote unlocked for ~$10 (eBay[ebay.com])

(b) The Straight Talk phone must have been activated on Straight Talk Service for no fewer than 12 months with Service Plans redeemed in no fewer than 12 months.
Boost Mobile Pre-owned phones may have visible wear and tear including small scratches, cracks and chips/dents on back cover and housing, minor chip or scratches on the front glass (no cracks), and small dents and/or scuffs. Many of these imperfections, if they do exist on the device, can be concealed by a phone case.

I bought several pre-owned iPhone 6 from Boost website. They are all near perfect condition; no scratch, no crack or no dent.

An FYI that it's now 18 months rather than a year that Boost locks you to their services. The rep I spoke with said all of their phones are locked to the Boostmobile service.
From the bottom of the sale page -
*Req. 18-mo. installment agreement, qualifying device & service plan. APR varies.
I prefer a nice low bill from Ting, so I'll pass. (...and wait for the next alert)
So, that's a slight misquote and consequent misreading from the bottom of the Boost page. What is says is "*BoostUP: Req. 18-mo. installment agreement, qualifying device & service plan. APR varies. . . ."
Finally, assuming you just want to leave Boost for whatever reason (and unlocking the device is not a concern) you can simply leave at any time as there is no fixed contract term at all.
Bought the phone Thursday, and it arrived Monday. Tuesday I paid a service less than $9 to unlock. They unlocked in 20 minutes or less. It works well, and phone is in mint condition. Thank you OP for the slick deal!

Got in on this deal early on, using it now. I was skeptical but looking over it seemed to be in perfect condition. Can't compare to brand new battery life but seem to last somewhere around a day and a half if used sparingly. Fast charger is amazing 1-1.5 hours from empty to full. Even managed to snag a Samsung wireless fast charger for 25 over the holidays. Feel like I got a slick deal. Also I'm with boost so I can't comment on unlocking.

The 18-month period mentioned there refers to the "BoostUP" financing plan, which you can read about here: https://www.boostmobile
It appears unlocking still requires 12 months of use: https://community.boost

What was the battery condition?
