And what's this go to a different store or cashier thing? Had the dude last year just ring me up a couple times.
Do Target gift cards start charging fees after a year as I have a few from last year? Should I use them right away?

Recently I purchased about $50 in groceries and a $50 Disney card. I had about $80 in gift cards (several cards). At self check out I was scanning each card. Once my gift card values went over the amount of my groceries, the register gave a warning and it required a cashier to come over and unlock it. It told the cashier my gift card balance exceeded my other items or something to that effect (cashier looked at it for a split second and over road it so I didn't see exact wording). I was able to in effect, buy a gift card with a gift card. It may work for you, it may not. Point being, the register will flag it and require a second look by an employee.
Can it be done. Yes. Would it be easy to buy $1000 worth of Disney cards at self check out with just Target cards? Not likely.
Booooom. You blew his mind.

I need to double check but I would be surprised if the discover cb didn't exclude gift cards. If it doesn't good call!
You get 5 percent off portion you don't finance and don't pay for with gift cards. It isn't taken off the top it's prorated for the portion you put on your target card. I can probably prove this if I can find some receipts where I paid partial gift card and partial red card but I have done it and calculated it out myself so I'm not just saying something I heard.
