I think we can all agree that cooking dinner at work is ideal, convenient, and completely normal.
If you're asking "this or the wifi version", wifi is only if you need to leave your meal in an ice bath before going to work and starting this remotely from there. If you're just going to be running this - starting it, really - from home, then you do not need to spend more on wifi.
You be clear, it won't cook any faster, just heat the water to temp faster.

For what it's worth, the Wifi version is a little more powerful...900 Watts vs 800, so it'll cook a little faster. That said, I agree that the Wifi is a luxury that doesn't have a ton of practical value unless you're starting your meals remotely.

Bought this during the nano debacle. I do not use the Bluetooth function. I love this thing otherwise. For those talking about remotely starting this thing, I just cook my meats at work. Then ice bath until I get home to finish them.

Wifi absolutely has practical value. Bluetooth has very limited range. In my house I will lose connection to the unit if it is operating in my kitchen and I am at the opposite end of the house. That is fairly frequent and for that reason alone I would pick up a wifi. Additionally, if I am not mistaken the bluetooth model will not support multiple cooks if you choose to expand further down the road. That being said I would pick up one at this price in a heartbeat, it is perfect for someone who is on the fence about trying Sous Vide, but to say wifi doesn't have practical value is incrorrect.

its not the wifi that makes it more powerful, its the difference between gen1 and gen 2. Gen 1 is 800 watts and has both bluetooth and wifi models. Gen 2 is 900 watts and has both bluetooth and wifi models.

This comment is spot on - the difference here is not whether you plan on leaving the house, it's whether you plan on being further than 20-40 feet from the unit and being able to measure temp.

Don't forget - sous vide is often a long, slow affair. Bluetooth means you're basically within 30 feet of the device at all times, or you're out of range. Probably not an issue if you're in an apartment, but not so great in a house. I've got the original (non-BT or Wifi) unit, and I'm holding out for an upgrade to WiFi, don't think the BT alone is worth it. If you're looking to buy your first unit, this is a great price, just know that the BT's utility is limited in those scenarios above, and if it's enough to warrant paying the increased cost of WiFi go for it up front.

More watts won't cook food sous vide any faster but it will heat up the water faster and might be worth it if you plan to do bigger cooks. I'm sure that's what you meant. Smilie

These are outstanding for thick cut steaks. Just made some filet mignon over the weekend, came out great.

If I have any random rich uncles looking to get me a Christmas present I can't afford, this would do. Wink
