If people feel good about doing rewards let them. It does save money, especially if you shop the store a lot.

My beef is not against deals? Its against 100% back rewards at stores that already over inflate prices. Diminishes the value of the rewards.

here is the math, if you spend all your money on buying more batteries with the reward (tax not included):
Office Depot $16 for 16, with $16 back in rewards that is used to buy another 16 batteries =
= 32 batteries for the price of $16 (cost per single battery $0.52)
Costco currently is selling 40 pack for $13 making it (cost per single battery $0.33)
Costco deal is better if you have a Costco membership, no need to deal with paperwork or rewards, no need to pay double tax, no need to deal with almost defunct company, if battery fail before EOL take them back get full refund . . .
If you don't have a Costco membership, you can get HF brand batteries for free at HF

You forgot to factor in the second rewards you get from second batteries order which was done using the points from first battery order.
example:
1st order: batteries using my CC: $16+tax
get $16 points
2nd order: batteries using point: $16 + tax(my CC)
get $16 points
3rd order: use $16 points for batteries?
Last year along with 20% off coupon and this offer I got 32 batteries+ Samsonite neck pillow + Samsonite travel plug for $14 only.
so this deal is not as slick as last year but slick itself
