I won't argue that people absolutely need to visit optometrists for eye exams to ensure eye health and get prescriptions for corrective lenses, but I've been extremely pleased with glasses I've bought online. In fact I ordered the glasses I'm wearing now online, and they are by far the best glasses I've ever had; they're also the cheapest.

When I buy glasses from an optometrist, they nickel and dime me to death. It's an extra $30 for having astigmatism, an extra $35 for a strong prescription, an extra $50 for high-index lenses, an extra $50 for A/R coating, an extra $80 for photochromic lenses, an extra $30 for anti-scratch coating, and the list goes on and on.

So, I would always settle for regular low-index heavy Coke bottle lenses without any fancy extras to avoid paying like $300 for a pair of glasses that will probably just get scratched or lost eventually anyway. I always assumed things like A/R coating were just gimmicks anyway because they were too expensive for me to have ever tried.

Then I ordered online, and my eyes were opened. Since A/R coating was only like $5 extra, I actually decided to get it. And, wow, what a difference it made. I was amazed and also saddened by how I had been putting up with glare because of overpriced options from optometrists. I'll never buy another pair of glasses without A/R coating.

Online, I was able to order well-made glasses with thin and light high-index photochromic lenses, with A/R, anti-scratch, and oleophobic coatings for under $75! I love these glasses, and I'll never buy glasses from an optometrist again.

Heck, with online prices, I can justify buying several pairs of glasses. I now have a spare pair I keep in my car, and I even bought a pair of prescription safety glasses. These are luxuries I never had before ordering glasses online was a thing.

I get the feeling that the $50 eye exam is a loss-leader for optometrists, and their real bread and butter is selling overpriced glasses. I expect they will start (if they haven't already) charging people more for exams who don't buy glasses from them.

With that said, I know some people aren't happy with their online glasses. I have a family member who tried ordering glasses online several times and was never satisfied. So ordering glasses online isn't for everyone, but I sure am glad I can order them online.
What's next??? Do It Yourself colonoscopy??? LOL.

Anyone done this? My prescription hasn't changed in years and find it a hassle to go in and pay for an exam to get he same prescription every time.

You can print the prescription once you receive from the doctor. The turn around time is less than 24 hours.

Probably a lot easier to list the non-qualifying states in the wiki. LOL

Ahh, and just after I placed an order with a UK online pharmacy (prescription not required) because I didn't want to participate in the prescription contact scam. No change to my script for a decade and yet they still want me to visit a doctor every 2 years in order to place an order for the exam same contacts (would be 1 year were it not for NY state).

End of rant. Thanks for the deal, will use this in the future.

Anyone with experience in the industry who can say if an online exam is actually accurate?
