do these go lower? I'm not in a hurry but do want these if this is the best price!
i'm interested in hearing the mark II to see if there's any significant improvements.
I think the MassDrop pair is a slightly better value, but you can't lose. These sound like $600 speakers powered by a $200 stereo receiver.

Do I need a receiver for these speakers to work or can i simply plug in an Airport Express or any 3.5mm device?

No receiver needed. I use mine with Chromecast Audio.

The MassDrop one includes a cable with 3.5mm stereo plug to 1/4" L/R mono plugs, so any source with 3.5mm out will work.
Please be aware that these speakers will not work with most home theater receivers (except those with pre-amp out, which is very rare these days) and that you just have the one cable, so you need to have straight in your mind that will use these as stereo speakers with a single source for the life of the speakers. For most people, that will mean a computer or maybe tablet as your one source.
There are some clunky pushbutton source selectors you could get off of Amazon that you might be able to adapt to select other sources, and you could buy an actual pre-amp (how it's done in a studio), but that's not really the market these speakers are going for.
Pair them with this mixer here for convenient volume control at your fingertips, and mixing with up to one more sound source: https://www.amazon.com/Lexicon-2-...icon+alpha
