Get Newegg coupons
I live in Connecticut and have been shopping online with Newegg since at least 2004 (and I believe a lot earlier than that). I learned the other day that Newegg voluntarily gave the State of CT its customer purchase history files without any legal mandate such as a warrant, subpoena, or court order. This has allowed CT to impose retroactive "use taxes" that circumvent the Supreme Court's holding in Quill. I knew that the politicians and bureaucrats in Hartford (the capital) are a bunch of blood sucking leeches, but I never expected Newegg to voluntarily share its customers' purchase data with them particularly in the absence of an enforceable criterium (i.e., physical presence within the state). The taxes I expect because insatiable blood-sucking parasites like politicians and bureaucrats don't care if they kill the host ... but when Newegg betrays its long term customers, that's another issue. I know some Marxists are going to criticize me for complaining about taxes, but if you can ignore your propaganda filled public school educations (and yes, I went to public school) and actually READ what I'm writing here, you'll see that I'm concerned about a business entity with established relationships betraying its customer base, not about taxes per se.

You always owed these taxes and were supposed to be paying them and now you got caught. If you don't like the taxes in your state either move or quit voting for the big government/big spenders in either party.
I have an accountant friend where I used to live who has tracked his online purchases for years and correctly paid the required use taxes on them. Anyone whose state is closing that loophole should just be happy they've managed to cheat on their taxes for this long. I live in a state without sales tax, so I don't have to worry about it.
Back to the actual original topic: it is pretty bad that Newegg supplied that information without a warrant or other legally forceful measures. I also wonder if it will be a net gain for the state, considering all the research that will have to be done. I know I made purchases there going back to the late 1990s, but good luck finding me based on shipping/billing information I used back then, much less enforcing it in a state where I no longer live.

There are so many companies that don't collect sales tax on customer who does not live in the state.
For example, ADORAMA, B&H, BUYDIG, BEACHCAMERA, I think AMAZON for some states but I'm not sure.
What about people who live in Delaware? Where there are so sales tax whatsoever? So they have to pay sales tax to CT even though they get NO benefit from the state?

For exapmle if I buy a $1000 tv from amazon I am supposed to go to my local tax department and pay them the $115 I would have been taxed in a local store.
Not that state where it was shipped from.

Say you didn't know and get a discount.
That's the DMV, does that also apply to the IRS?
