This is cheaper than previous deal back in December.

How to get a NEW iPhone unlocked from previous thread. This would allow you to own the phone out right and take it to any carrier. Rep to desidealfinder

1) Went to Best Buy and purchased a new IPhone 32GB. I request that I want the phone to be sealed. The sprint guy gave me a sealed box along with Spring SIM card. Tell rep it is a gift and you want a sealed box, if they won't do it try a different rep or a different BB.
2) After 30 mins I went to Sprint store to pay off the whole phone. (you should also be able to do this online after you create an account with Sprint)
3) Drove to Apple Store and got Free Verizon Postpaid card. It took no more than 10 mins to get one.
4) Went to another BestBuy and purchased H2O SIM card. They have it for 9.99 but you can price match it with Amazon for ~$2.
5) Came home, opened the iPhone box and inserted Verizon SIM and setup the phone. All went well
6) Took off verizon sim and inserted Sprint SIM. Phone was activated.
7) To make sure that the phone is unlocked, I added ATT SIM and made few calls. All went well. Phone is unlocked at this point.
8) Inserted Sprint SIM and made 2 calls. Went online to track what services are there on my online account and the phone.
9) After few hours I went to H2O website for number porting. You do not need to buy credit... Just SIM is fine. Filled up the form and submitted.
10) I did not received confirmation email from H2O but after around 2 hours of submitting the H2O porting form, I could see that I can no longer receive calls on Sprint iPhone. I figured the number has been ported.
11) Next day I contacted H2O to find out whether the number has been ported or not. They CONFIRMED it has been ported. No need to buy credit from them
12) Initiated a chat on Sprint website. I checked with them whether the account has been closed. The rep confirmed the account is CLOSED and there is NO PAYMENT due.
13) Went on sprint website to confirm. There is No service attached.

All Goood here....
A New iPhone... UNLOCKED ..in 2 days-... sweeeeeettt

Thank you all

the write up in the OP is pretty good.

only changes i would make are :

>>>) Went to Best Buy and purchased a new IPhone 32GB. I request that I want the phone to be sealed. The sprint guy gave me a sealed box along with Spring SIM card. Tell rep it is a gift and you want a sealed box, if they won't do it try a different rep or a different BB.
>>>) Drove to Apple Store and got Free POST Verizon Postpaid card. It took no more than 10 mins to get one. This is important step. do not skip it. The reason u need a POST paid V sim is that with this V sim, the phone will be unlocked (of the 4 major carriers ONLY VERIZON SIM WILL GET THE PHONE UNLOCKED ON FIRST BOOT UP ...not att, not tmobile, not sprint, not h20, not metro, not anything else...ONLY VERIZON POST PAID SIM...to summarize...regardless of which carrier u finally intend to use this phone with .....BOOT UP THE PHONE FIRST WITH ONLY VERIZON POST PAID SIM). typically the phone is locked to the first carrier sim that is inserted. if u use V, then phone will be unlocked.
>>>) Went to another BestBuy and purchased H2O SIM card. They have it for 9.99 but you can price match it with Amazon for ~$2. (order 1c h20 sim from amazon right now for future use)
>>>) Came home, opened the iPhone box and inserted Verizon SIM and setup the phone. All went well. Phone is unlocked at this point.
>>>) Took off verizon sim and inserted Sprint SIM. Phone was activated. the number will be the one asssigned to u by sprint
>>>) To make sure that the phone is unlocked, I added ATT SIM and made few calls. All went well. This step not necessarily if u dont have a att (or any other for that matter) sim.
>>>) Placed sprint sim back in phone . Use the phone, call *3, follow prompts. pay off the whole phone. have to have sprint sim in to use *3 to pay off phone.
>>>) With Sprint SIM , made 2 calls. Went online to track what services are there on my online account and the phone.
>>>) After few hours I went to H2O website for number porting. You do not need to buy credit... Just SIM is fine. Filled up the form and submitted.
>>>) I did not received confirmation email from H2O but after around 2 hours of submitting the H2O porting form, I could see that I can no longer receive calls on Sprint iPhone. I figured the number has been ported.
>>>) Next day I contacted H2O to find out whether the number has been ported or not. They CONFIRMED it has been ported. No need to buy credit from them
>>>) Initiated a chat on Sprint website. I checked with them whether the account has been closed. The rep confirmed the account is CLOSED and there is NO PAYMENT due.

Other thoughts/notes:
A.
apple store will usually give away for FREE APPLE sim cards for any carrier
if u are worried, u can make this your step 1.
say something like..i have family visisting and will have them added to my verizon plan for 1 or 2 months. i will use a old iphone 7 i have, but i have lost/misplaced the sim card
or something similar
use your imagination

B.
port to any carrier.
h20 is choice of many, because only cost 1 penny...and is pretty fast/reliable
for h20:
1.
if u do not care about the number, it will only cost u 1 penny. port to h20, do not fund, let number die

2.
if u DO care about the number, it will cost u $10.
port to h20, fund with $10 pay as u go. make at least 3 calls to 3 different numbers, of ~2 minutes each.
call h20 and ask for account number and pin.
they will verify the three numbers u called. they will give u EITHER the account number/or pin over phone.
the other of the 2, they will text you.
typically they require u to be with h20 for 3-5 business days, but this rule is NOT strictly enforced

C.
if u do it all within 2 day, (sign up, activate, unlock, port out)

assuming the only line u have is this newly created line
as soon as u port out, you are effectively cancelling the entire account

if u do it within 2 day, it is highly likely even the activation fee as well as the monthy fee
will not hit the account
even if bought at best buy

edit:
consider to port out next day..just to safe ..make sure the account is registered

D.
i would highly recommend against staying with sprint for 50 days just to get a phone unlocked
if u read some of threads, u will find there is no guarantee with this method..and u have paid 2 months of monthly bills unnecessarily
especially since there are ways outlined very nicely to do the deal and be unlocked in 1-2 days

1. if possible, pay off phone with automated system *3 with the phone itself
2. avoid human conversation with sprint as much as possible
3. if cancelling service, and u dont care about number, best to use h20 1c sim from amazon

E.
u can get a google voice number to port in for $3

Aren't they going for around the same price on Swappa. Seems like a lot of work for a new one (i.e credit check).

If I could save the whole deal of buying/trying multiple SIMs, I would bite it now.

Put the carrier "Sprint" in your title since price goes way up for Verizon.

This morning I saw iPhone 7 32gb (A1660) on swappa $480 for refurbished. $530 opened but new. Let me know if you see something better. Looking to get this for my mom as a gift.
