I hate that thy call these 'Cedar' when it's really 'Chinese Cedar' which is actually Cypress - the same 'Cedar' used in backyard play sets. Real cedar would be significantly more expensive, I just wish they were upfront with the customer with what they're actually getting. Cypress doesn't hold up as well as cedar, but that's also the cost trade off.

Before assembling I would definitely use a quality stain and seal on all the lumber appropriate to the climate it's in. And then follow up with regular maintenance, just like any other wood that's exposed to the elements.

$100 Really?? Sound like you know very little about building materials.

Does anybody know if the pergola can be assembled without the table side? We need a pergola with 3 sides open...

Isn't Cedar Pergola at $899 shipped a better deal?

Not saying not also a good deal, but doesn't include the seating, the Bartop/table, or electrical outlets.

Everything but the extension cord to run power from your house to the pergola

Reviews say yes, that the bar and benches are not structural

Saw this in store. Looks nice when new. Will look like junk in 2 years and you'll be taking your $800 to the dumpster

What is your reasoning for this assessment? If it is stained as it should be, why would there be an issue?

This isn't a slick deal. This item has been this price for at least 2 years
You are right. I've been watching Sam's Club pergolas for a year now. The cedar one has fluctuated by $50 up and down but this one has been the same. It's not a slick deal. It's a good deal overall though.

Cedar is one of the best choices for outdoor wood furniture when comparing cost and durabilty. I am sure that the manufacturer put some type of sealant on it which sucks for me but good for most because now you will have to reseal it every one to two years. But by doing so it should last a decade atleast when taken care of. Dirt is one of the biggest things for outdoor furniture.

Seems like a fair price, but I will never understand the point of a pergola. I'm a fair-skinned fella and when I want out of the sun, this doesn't do it.
The difference with a pergola compared to complete shade is best experienced in extremely hot climates like Phoenix, AZ. Shade is nice, but a pergola lets the air flow and not become stuck under the roof. Add misters and it's a hell of a lot better than a complete shade structure.

Would this hold up thru an NJ winter? Will it fly away or would i need to bolt it down?

You do realize a GFIC outlet costs $15 right?

I plan to grow vines and climbing plants. The additional trellis on top will help provide additional cover too
