I hate that thy call these 'Cedar' when it's really 'Chinese Cedar' which is actually Cypress - the same 'Cedar' used in backyard play sets. Real cedar would be significantly more expensive, I just wish they were upfront with the customer with what they're actually getting. Cypress doesn't hold up as well as cedar, but that's also the cost trade off.

Before assembling I would definitely use a quality stain and seal on all the lumber appropriate to the climate it's in. And then follow up with regular maintenance, just like any other wood that's exposed to the elements.

$100 Really?? Sound like you know very little about building materials.

How does this compare to the cost of just the wood?
I'm in the middle of installing this myself and has been dragging on/off for about 3 weeks now. The material is made of chinese cedar so you can do your research from that. As for regular US cedar you will definitely be paying much more than that. Also i got this for about $600 from one of the sams club that was closing a few months ago. You will definitely need 2 people to put this tiger or maneuver the box and that is why it has dragged on so long. But so far I'm pretty impressed with it. It will take 2 person a full day to install this.

Isn't Cedar Pergola at $899 shipped a better deal?

Not exactly. Yours is 12x10 where this one is 14x10 and includes 2 bench and a bar style countertop.

I have this but without the outlets. Paid $1000 2 years ago. We did some research and put some quality sealant on it before we assembled it and it still looks decent for sure. Need to touch up a few spots this spring. Will probably need to stain and seal next year. At $800 with electrical I think it's a good deal but absolutely seal it!! Quality is what is expected at this price. Bench arm rests are the most breakable. Haven't broke yet but I wouldn't be surprised if one does at some point. Cedar is pretty brittle.

Looks nice. I'd add corner bracing with this being free standing. It's possible to make these last with effort. I still have my Garden Treasure steel one from ages ago on here. Wind load on these will be your nemesis. Keep tight connections, add cross members and a little something for carpenter bees...

I have one that I built from scratch. After five years, the stain has slightly faded but it is rock solid. If you put stuff outside and do nothing to protect it, it will rust, fade and deteriorate. If you take care of it and do a little preventative maintenance, it will last a lot longer.

Anyone have luck with the $600 model? I wanted to confirm it's the same minus the outlets.

Saw this in store. Looks nice when new. Will look like junk in 2 years and you'll be taking your $800 to the dumpster
Not true at all. We've had one of the Sam's pergolas for 7 years now. We've sealed it twice. Has aged nicely and is holding up well. Has on piece of wood on the top break when a branch fell on it. Easy fix. Don't comment if you have no real life experience with the product.

I've been wanting some of these, but it seems like we have more winter than summer here where I live. This thing would be buried I'm snow for most of the year. Would be nice though.
