I hate that thy call these 'Cedar' when it's really 'Chinese Cedar' which is actually Cypress - the same 'Cedar' used in backyard play sets. Real cedar would be significantly more expensive, I just wish they were upfront with the customer with what they're actually getting. Cypress doesn't hold up as well as cedar, but that's also the cost trade off.

Before assembling I would definitely use a quality stain and seal on all the lumber appropriate to the climate it's in. And then follow up with regular maintenance, just like any other wood that's exposed to the elements.

Isn't Cedar Pergola at $899 shipped a better deal?

I bought this 2 or 3 years ago for $800 store pick up and took 2 people and a total of 6 hours to put it together. Took another 5 hours or so to stain by myself. I bought the netting from Amazon for $78 and a tarp for $20 for the rainy days. We are very happy with it. I don't need the bench and I use the outlet right next to it for lighting so it's perfect for us.

Not true at all. We've had one of the Sam's pergolas for 7 years now. We've sealed it twice. Has aged nicely and is holding up well. Has on piece of wood on the top break when a branch fell on it. Easy fix. Don't comment if you have no real life experience with the product.
What he is saying is that left by itself without sealing it every other year, yes it would be garbage.
You sealed your pergola that is why it is not rot yet, I still don't believe it without a picture

How does this compare to the cost of just the wood?
Don't know the cost for cedar but PT pine is around $400 for the wood for this setup.

Not saying not also a good deal, but doesn't include the seating, the Bartop/table, or electrical outlets.
Also at only 10x12, youre losing an additional 20 sqft

You clearly know nothing at all about the cost of building materials. A single 6x6x12 piece of chinese cedar will run $70 retail.... just 1.

that's crazy. Tree's are low maintenance, lumbers shouldn't cost that much. Everything feels so expensive now days. I pay $200 a month for phone/internet/tv.

You realize it doesnt grow in perfect 6x6x12 dimensions right? It is not like picking fruit that you can harvest every year.

Cedar itself is a natural insect repellent. Take care of if, e.g. Pressure wash / refinish as needed, should last at least 10 years
