You did it wrong. And applying with your SSN had nothing to do with your decline. Don't pretend to have an elaborate business that you can't back up - even if you can stretch it to seem kinda plausible.

What you should have done (and could do in 30 days if you wish to reapply) is to simply apply as a "Sole Proprietor". From that point, pick a category/subcategory that makes sense for you, put minimal levels of income and years in business. I have gotten 3 Chase business cards doing exactly that (2 using my SSN, the 3rd with an EIN), as have a large number of other people - oddly enough, it is easier to get approved following those steps than for legitimate small business owners applying for their businesses.
That one has an annual fee and requires $5k spending from what I can see, but the CB and bonus amount are indeed better.
When I signed up years ago, basic Ebay sellers were viewed as a business. Today YMMV but I still have the card.

One thing to know, the buyer protections granted to customers of non-business VISA cards may not come with the business card. You may want to check carefully before using this card for higher risk purchases.

No it doesn't count as 5%. Not sure of a card that does have that above 2%.

So much for this deal. They ask way too much stuff to be able to legitimately apply when self employed. Says they check the legitimacy of the business bssed on the name you list (not everyone has a business name). Then it asks for specific business income, etc... The ones who say you can just say you're a business due to selling 1 item on ebay would have to be lying about business profits, i would imagine, to get approved.

Not sure why you imagine that- lots of folks have been approved with very small business income and ebay listed as the business throughout all the chase biz card threads.

They're just checking if your ssn or ein is legit.

Except the terms also say you're agreeing that you will only make business purchases on it and not household ones. It doesn't say they suggest it, it says you agree to do so. I was figuring for a work from home business, you'd be able to put home expenses and it be no big deal, but the way they word those strict terms you're agreeing to, I don't know... and notice people have been posting in here about being turned down, so it must not be close to automatic approval.

I do. This has been covered repeatedly in these biz card threads.

Chase doesn't care, at all, what you buy.

That wording is there because biz cards don't have the same consumer protections that personal cards do, and Chase doesn't want you suing them because you didn't know that.

So they can say "Well, they agreed they'd just not use it for personal things, so they can't sue us when they use it for personal things"

That's why it's you agreeing, not them requiring. Very different things.

You're explicitly allowed to use it for those things though, and the benefits guide explicitly mentions use of it for personal charges as something they permit.

Applied two days ago and got the 30 day email. Called automated number this morning and got approved! It was as easy as applying for a regular card. Thanks OP!

I paid my bills in advance for a few months. Paid off my lease on my T-Mobile phones. Threw a several hundred at my Dish and cable bill. All of those should count towards the 5%. Then I put the rest towards my electric bill. That won't get me 5% but it's something that I spend a lot of money on each summer. This only works if you have the money to pay all of that off right away so you don't get charged interest.
