Some example deals:

Leap chair by Steelcase for $249

Aeron chair for $386

Zody chair for $435

*Most chairs listed are open box, although it appears they still come w/ standard warranties.

I have no experience w/ Madison Seating, but a lot of posters have negative reviews of the retailer. Buyer beware.

Madison Seating is not an authorized Herman Miller or Steelcase dealer I think. They've been sued multiple times already.

I think the warranties are through Madison Seating and not through Herman Miller for what it's worth.

Everything seems so shady... but tempting... return policy isn't bad, but chances of something going wrong and needing warranty may not be worth the savings on a high end chair...

I'm considering but they say refund. Restocking fees and shipping I'm sure are applicable but I haven't found specifics yet.

Edit:
Changed my mind:
If the item being returned is part of our "open box" clearance sale, a refund will be issued less a restocking fee of $50.00.

If the merchandise was originally shipped via freight service (LTL) under our Free Shipping promotion, the initial shipping charges will be $150.00+ and deducted from the refund should you decide to return the product. (Larger shipments that cannot be delivered via regular Ground service will require a special LTL service. Items that require LTL freight will weigh between 100 lbs to 20,000 lbs.)

Best guess from Amazon listing of executive is the products would be under 100 pounds though.

Does not look shaddy to me, but the return policy is not good at all, see comment right below yours.

This place is freaking shady, avoid at all cost. Bought an "open box" Aeron for my wife, the lift didn't work out of the box. Contacted support and they shipped us a new hydraulic. While attempting to fix the chair, found a sticker with manufacturer date of 2001. Open box my ass, ended up filing a return via our credit card company

Yes this place is shady. I bought a aeron chair from them few weeks back. It took for ever to ship it. I had to make about four calls before they shipped it. Wrong color and wrong features. Now they want me to ship it back at my cost plus 50$ restocking fees. avoid them.

not bad but i can do better. bought my aeron off craigslist for 150, and my leap v2 for 100. it's easy to score a nice discount on a good chair, so i wouldn't buy this off of a store.

I once brought a chair through a company called bizchairs (which I believe has been in business under various names for many years). The chair turned out to be defective and after months of back and forth via email and telephone, they finally gave me an RMA number to return it. But then they didn't credit my charge card because they claimed the problem was my fault. Which led to a lot of arguing with the CC company and finally being forced to escalate the issue to their executive complaints department, which finally resolved the issue in my favor.

Looking at the website for this company, I notice that the company website was created on 6/26/2016, so it is less than 2 years old, that they don't seem to list their physical address anywhere on their website and that their website registration details are all privacy blocked.

I'd say that this company looks to be one where "Caveat emptor" should rule.

Like some of the others I saw this deal and got excited but after doing a little research I think I'm going to pass. The chairs are not under manufacturer warranty, they're under the "madison warranty" which requires you to ship the chair back to them at your cost. Packing a freaking office chair ti ship across the country (I'm west coast, they're in NY) is a freaking hassle enough much less then having to pay for said shipping and waiting for who knows how long to get it back. Some have claimed the reason you can't take the chairs to a local Steelcase, Herman-Miller, etc. to have them repaired is because the chair Madison sells you have been de-branded. I think I'm going to file this one under the 'ol "if it's too good to be true...".

I suspect Madison is actually one of those places that buys these chairs at auctions, refurbishes them (basically a clean and some new cheap fabric) then flips them. Certainly would explain why they have several disclaimers like "Not an authorized reseller", no manufacturer warranties and how there's an options to add low grade bond leather to any chair.

These are all old chairs from offices that decided to upgrade or went under and liquidated their furniture.

You don't get the standard 10 year- lifetime warranty that these manufacturers offer. The warranty is what makes paying the high prices worth it. Cost of $1k chair isnt as jarring when you consider it will last 10 years.

If you want to buy used, probably better to look for a local used office furniture liquidator. I got a steelcase Think for $150 in great shape.
