I think it is a good computer for your student I guess. No GPU but 7th gen I7, 8GB memory and full HD resolution and less than 5 LBS for 450 not a bad I guess.

That is by far the better deal. That 8th Gen i5 is a Quad-Core with HT as compared to the Dual-Core i7. It also has discrete graphics, an SSD, and full HD 1080p screen.
For $549.00 this is the laptop to buy!

This Acer has an 8th Gen i3 that is almost the same speed as the 7th Gen i7, 6GB of ram, 1TB 5400RPM, Full HD 1080p screen, and a dvd burner. You can also add an M.2 SSD easily and use the 1TB drive for storage.
