Insane price. I'm grabbing a few just in case. I paid $30 each on a promo for a different version [amazon.com] which is coax only, and 3 years ago. Totally stable and fast.

Unfortunately it's MOCA 1.1, so it's incredibly slow. But for the right application it'll be a lot more stable than wireless extenders and such.

If you're just looking for a way to run Ethernet over coaxial cable from your router to another spot in your home, you can get this 2-pack of DECA adapters [amazon.com] for under $15 shipped. No need to configure, just plug them in.

Since these ActionTec ones don't have current security updates, I'd only use them with the Wi-Fi turned off. Reviews mention speed maxes out at 140Mbps, so not a big improvement from the solution above.

Can this be used to connect a TiVo mini via coax to an Ethernet network? I am using an old Verizon router right now (as only an ethernet to MoCA bridge) but I suspect this might be more power efficient.

TiVo mini->coax->this device->Ethernet network
I just ordered 2 for the same exact reason been using 2 old vzn routers to run my moca network and the one likes to drop randomly every couple weeks. For $9 this is a steal I grabbed 2 tempted to get a 3rd

the directv ones work, but it is a different standard from MoCA. So you can't interchange them. Moreover MoCA can't be used on the same coax lines that are used for sat-tv, only fiber and cable tv.

Considering that MoCA is more ubiquitous, and 2.0 devices are backwards compatible with 1.1 devices, not to mention that most people have Cable/fiber, I think MoCA is a better choice. Just my opinion.

I have gigabit from fios. What will be the max speeds this will deliver? At this moment I cannot get ethernet to my living room and need to live with coax

This is a networking device which utilizes the MoCA standard to provide networking over Coax...Coax being the cable that is for cable tv...wiring that most homes have. The device is intended for people who don't have or don't want to install ethernet wiring, their wifi coverage is crap, and they have existing coax wiring (my parents house falls into all categories). This device enables your coaxial cable wiring in your home to act like ethernet wires and provide an in-home network. You need at least two devices to create the coax network.

This particular device is intended to extend a wireless network. Get two of them, create the coax network, and then "extend" the wifi network wherever you put it. However, it does not HAVE to be used for that. You can use them simply as ethernet adapters to connect a device via wired LAN (i.e. you can disable the wifi functionality and then they would just act like a devices to extend a wired network...e.g. plug in an xbox via coax at the other end of your home).

The pros are: solid solid connection, good speed (v1.1, these devices, are 100 mbps, v2.0, more expensive, is gigabit), inexpensive (cheaper than building an in-home ethernet network...and definitely cheaper, in this case, than a mimo wifi router to increase coverage).

The cons are: you need at least two devices to create the network, you need to make sure your coax lines are clean (no amplifiers or filters), these devices need to be powered to create the network...meaning you need electricity for the devices whereas a whole-home ethernet network requires no extra electricity), these particular devices are Wifi N (the Wifi AC version of this adapter is much more expensive), and there is a limit to how many coax devices you can connect on the coax lines (16).
Thank you for the explanation. Most older homes have cable wiring in bedrooms so I can see the value for it right there. If I have a traditional modem (connected by coax to cable company) and router (connected by ethernet to router), then I would need one of these connected to a router and another in a room where I wanted the connection to go? And both of the devices need to be connected to the home coax. Is this correct?

You will not get any super fast speeds since this is not Moca 2.0.

Likely will get 100 Mbps which is more than enough for any device. I am using one for streaming and works perfectly hardwired.

You will only need one of these, a MOCA enabled router and a 'live' coaxial cable at the spot where you want to install this extender. I have it installed on a different floor than my FiOS router.
Can I use more than one of these? Say one in basement and one in bedroom as long as coax is "live"?

I tried setting up mine to work in conjunction with my Actiontec G1100 (router on the first floor, extender on the second). For some reason, with the Extender active, we lose internet connectivity intermittently from time to time. Is the dual band causing issues? Should we use either 2.4ghz or 5ghz, but not both (at least without the same password)?
