Say goodbye to Waze if you have no reception on your phone or any offline maps saved.
Lmao, almost every single GPS thread.

Someone says this as if the people interested in buying a dedicated GPS unit don't already know what Google Maps, HERE, Waze or a smartphone are.

Here's the thread before this one, same thing laugh out loud https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/393555
On your phone, turn off data and WiFi and turn on Location/GPS only. Next, try to launch Waze or Google Maps. It won't even start without any type of connection to the internet.

The GPS in the phone will continue to pinpoint you but heaven forbid being somewhere you're unfamiliar with trying to find your way around or getting lost with no reception/data. If you already input your destination while you were connected to data/Wi-Fi, as long as the app doesn't error out or crash when you go off the cellular grid, you should hopefully be alright for a little while provided that app doesn't crash. If it does, you won't be able to even restart it until you hit cell signals again and hope they're strong enough to allow you to plug in the info to get you back on your route.

It's worth testing out Waze and Google Maps without downloading offline maps and cutting off your data. It demonstrates how these standalone GPS units otter some benefits over phone apps. Such as live traffic and route conditions/updates, which apps require data to perform. It's also beneficial for people who have mobile data caps on their plans (I.e. no unlimited, only say 5GB a month). A GPS unit, you buy it once and done. No worrying about using your data or roaming, if that's a concern for someone; or putting your phone battery through added drain/recharge cycles and its overall health in the long run; or if you have an AMOLED screen, the possibility of burn-in, etc..

There are a few apps that you can store maps on your phone. My issue with the phone is it drain the battery like crazy when using GPS. Also, I have not experience freeze on the regular GPS but there were a few freezing on the phone. Once it reboot the phone.

I bought this about a year ago. Super sharp, large, gorgeous, colorful and responsive glass screen. I paid about $170 brand new from an eBay seller.

I am a royalty wazer (top 1% in state by points?) but I'll be picking this up. Waze is great for local use but this will be handy in road trips and in Canada.

Uhm.. some people like to use their phone for a phone. I personally hate using GPS on my phone and would much rather use a dedicated GPS. Sure it's a nice feature, but would much rather my Note 8 be available to do something else besides a spotty GPS. Just because you don't need one doesn't mean that there's some other people out there that wouldn't like to have one, come on it's 2018.

I bought this new from Budig last week bundled with a case, twin power outlet, a heavy base and a one year extended warranty for $209. If you have use for the bundled accessories, this would be a better deal. Amazon list the case and the base $20 plus each. Otherwise, this deal is solid. Have been using the GPS and love it.

I have the HD traffic antenna from my old Garmin unit and works perfect with the DS 61.

Shit

This is a really good deal on this if the units are in good order. This device is so great if you want/need to use a GPS. Screen response, screen size, no huge classic GPS border around screen, weather map size if you elect to use that feature, voice command, and everything works pretty much perfect

I paid way more than this for one and have no regrets

hah nevermind I found a few and they seriously suck hairy monkey balls. $5 off $150, $10 off $300, $50 off $2000, etc.
So with this offer being $149 you'd have to throw another item in just to bring yourself up to the $150 offer to use the $5 off coupon.
